Add Woodhouse to the list. The way they speak to you is disgusting. Sometimes they actually watch you take stuff to the wrong skip so they can have a go at you.

In all the times I have been, It's allways ended up in an argument!

Ive nearly seen a couple of fights down there - especially between the white van drivers.

Ok, Tradesmen and businesses should find alternatives if they have regular rubbish to dump, but Ive borrowed the works van a couple of times (to clear out the garage etc) and have been subjected to searches and questioning similar to the recent airport fiasco.

I have to agree with you. They 'modernised' the tip at the back of Shirecliffe and now you have to climb up steps to throw rubbish into skips. This is not easy for some , and can get dangerous especially when wet or after spillages, and people getting rid of muck create plenty of spills. Both times I visited in the last year, no staff were present.
I and my son had to help a woman lift a matress up the steps to the skip.

I took a broken old TV to Woodhouse and two tip workers abandoned their posts drinking pop outside their hut to come over to my car and help me lift it out. Before they lifted it out of the boot, they asked if it worked. It didn't but I said yes. Am I a terrible person? :D

Would loved to have seen their faces when they tried it :hihi:

Surely they asked this to aid the recycling, as Woodhouse isn't a tip, it's a recycling facility!

I took a box of out-of-date cans of beer to the tip at High Green as soon as i opened my boot, 3 yes 3 tip workers abandoned their usual jobs of watching people struggling with heavy items and rushed over, quicker than a rat up a drain pipe to help me !! xxx

I see we've progressed from slagging off bin men to anyone involved in the refuse industry. Nice one.

No, they asked because they're all thieving Pikeys and they steal 'sellable' rubbish from the tips to flog for cash.

I only did it because they sat watching an old man trying to carry some heavy boxes into the skip without offering to help him...I ended up giving him a hand because he couldn't manage on my own. In return for me having done their jobs, I felt it only fair they should lift my TV out of the boot for me.

that is true. My girlfriend's dad is a bin man, and some of his mates work at the Woodhouse tip, and can earn a few hundred ££ extra a month from flogging stuff!

Good point. I would like to suggest we slag off shop workers next, they are in low paid, generaly boring jobs, they deserve a good slagging too.

I've took loads of stuff to Woodouse tip recently and they haven't been bad to me in fact helped me carry stuff. Mind you if they start to be funny the way i feel at the moment i am more likely to throw them on the tip so maybe it shows.

IMO anyone that provides a bad service, no matter what industry they're in deserves a good slagging off. Its just a pity we dont let them (or better still, their employers) know what a dreadful/rude/inefficient service they're providing. Thats one of the many problems we have in this country - we dont complain enough. We just walk away from the problem muttering under our breath (and, yes, I'm as guilty as the next person). Thats how they get away with it.

I think we don't complain (to the people that matter) enough, because we know there will be consiquences to us. e.g:

- Complain to Binmen - your service gets a lot worse because you complained
- Complain about food at a restaurant - get served spits next time
- Complain to a call centre member - get cut off for being obusive

etc

I agree, but bad service is different from being "misserable", unless part of their job description states they should be "happy/laughing and cheerfull from dawn till dusk" and their not being cheerfull somehow lessens the service they provide. Personally I don't go to the tip to be cheered-up I go to dump rubbish.

So, we do nothing for fear of retribution? :loopy:

If enough of us complained, they'd HAVE to do something to remedy the situation.

what's with calling me :loopy: ?

what's that all about?

No need! just voicing an opinion. I wish more of us did complain - but i was just suggesting a reason why maybe we don't!

Everyone has "off" days, hell, I have whole weeks of "off" days sometimes! But theres a difference between being "off" and "I dont give a flying ****" attitudes. The latter is the problem that I'm addressing.

I wasnt calling you :loopy: at all!! I was aiming that at the general attitude of all of us for adopting that attitude - me included sometimes! No offence intended - sorry if appeared that way. :)

You are missing the point! There are plenty of people who do volunteer work for no pay.
Anyone who gets paid to do a job, should do the job.
I know lots of people in low paid, or as you put it generally boring jobs who do the job to a high standard; those who don't will inevitably get slagged off.

The people, I believe, who deserve the real slaggings are the ridiculously high paid; such as the water company bosses, rubbish service, increased prices and fat bonuses for the fat cats.

Having said that, this thread was about rubbish tips, and my particular point was about poor design and poor assistance being available, which I stand by.
