Hello,

Young couple just moved here, both working designers, looking to meet new people as we don't know many people here! Whats the best way of meeting new people???

Also looking for a local yoga class - i used to go to one in a church hall, is there anything like that near sheffield bus station?

And one other thing - i would like to start evening classes at college, preferbly cheap (!) something like diy or craft based would be fun.

Thanks!!

Welcome to Sheffield!

I'd say the best way of meeting new people is to join yoga classes, or join a evening course, as you have enquired about :-)

I'm not too sure about any yoga classes, I'm sure there are some about, but I'm just not aware of them! If you find out about any, please let me know because I'd like to try yoga out!

About the courses... Well The sheffield college has many DIY and craft courses on offer :-) Here's the link to their site: http://my.sheffcol.ac.uk/
Theyre also quite cheap too, which is a bonus!

Hope this information helps you!

Ponds Forge and Hillsborough leisure centre both run yoga classes.

Alternatively, try JiuJitsu - look it up on the http://www.shef.ac.uk/~jiujitsu webpage.

The sheffield Telegraph is a local paper that comes out every Friday. It's got a huge listing section which is full of events and groups as well as concert and club listings. Its a good place to start to find out about what and where stuff goes on.

tombodojoj:

hathersage is about 18 miles out of sheffield in the peak district national park ... its on the road to hope / castleton.

sara g:

i go to the yoga classes at pondsforge ... they can be quite full ... but it's very rare they turn anyone away (unless you're like 5 mins late for the class) ... so you won't have a problem.

good idea to turn up 5 mins before the class.

not sure this is astaga yoga ... it's the one where you do lots of posture work and a deep relaxation at end of the class ... hatha yoga i believe.

tombodojoj

ok, wont be going there then, lol

i might check out the one at ponds forge.

I go to yoga @ Ponds Forge on both Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I am on the fitness unlimited scheme, so it's free for me (well, apart from the £25/month I pay). You can also pay on a per class basis.

A very good class for beginners and more experienced yogis alike.

I want to start going to a yoga class on an evening, but I haven't been able to find any that aren't like a course of so many classes that have started already and aren't open to new people until the next course starts after Easter. Does anyone know of any classes that I could start going to straight away, preferably where you pay per lesson rather than for the whole course?
I'm in Walkley so ideally I'd like somewhere fairly close to me, and I'd rather the classes weren't too expensive! Thanks to anyone who can help!

There is a yoga class on Thursday evenings at ponds forge.

I wouldn't recommend it though ... as they hold in down in aqua (which is in my opinion wholey unsuitable for a yoga class ... dirty floor / dusty stale air / bright lights in your eyes / continual buzzing noise from the lights ... the room is also used as a night club).

I only suffer it because the teacher is great.

fitness first is opposite Fletchers, Fitness Unlimited is also known as the Hillsborough Sports Centre or swimming baths. Think they're talking about Fitness First, however Fitness Unlimited used to do Yoga as well, although i don't know which form. The classes usually go booked up quickly but you could only book so far in advance.

I hope this makes sense and is of some help. :D

My yoga teacher has asked me to spread the word about her small friendly yoga classes for people of all abilities. I have been going to the class for nearly two years and would recommend the teacher.

Classes are on Thursday evenings at Broomhill Methodist Church in Sheffield, either 6 - 7:30pm or 7:45 - 9:15pm. This time includes 20 minutes of relaxation at the end. Classes usually run for 5 weeks and then break for one week. You will need to bring your own mat, but you may be able to borrow one for your first class from Ann if you just want to try the class first before you buy your own.

£22 for five classes or £5 for one class.

If you're interested please contact Ann Zielonka on 07929 736966 or if you'd like further information email me katwestwood@sigplc.comg
