View Full Version : Sheffield street rangers kirky 07-07-2004, 14:55 what do they actually do to justify getting paid 8 quid an hour..bunch of muppets i reckon Snook 07-07-2004, 14:57 We could probably get the real muppets at £8 an hour, they'd at least be entertaining. No sour faced.... I'll stop. A.B.Yaffle 07-07-2004, 15:04 I think they do a good job, including reporting vandalism and graffitti, chasing and catching muggers etc. Have you had bad experiences of street rangers then? You might like to look at this link.. http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/plugins/press/news/aRelease.asp?akey=1777&Mon=01/03/2004 Moon Maiden 07-07-2004, 15:05 Kirky if you have their wage details how come not a job description??? I not sure what they do either. Snook 07-07-2004, 15:14 'It isn't easy being a green Street Ranger!' kirky 07-07-2004, 15:22 ive seen happier looking bus drivers.......mmmm ok perhaps not:) duffman 07-07-2004, 16:27 Who do you mean by 'Street rangers'? what area do they work in? Think it's a new type of Power Ranger :P Suspecting that the lady had been mugged, Avril and Tony saw where the man was headed and using their local knowledge, found him at the old railway tracks Classic  kirky 08-07-2004, 13:13 Originally posted by duffman Who do you mean by 'Street rangers'? what area do they work in? ive seen them in the town centre...wybourn,manor,gleadless and other area's basically they walk round the streets suposedly preventing crime......but all the local yoofs just take the **** out them cos there all jobsworth muppets that were probably bullied at school, like your average match day stewards at the lane. gpsy 08-07-2004, 13:34 To be honest I think that ranger story (linked by a user above) sounds like most most decent members of the public would do. The Rangers aren't there to tackle the mugger, that's a job for the Police. As pointed out by another user, they are also mocked by youths and from what I can see they aren't too effective when a crime is taking place. Instead of the money being used to pay for Rangers (or a Ranger is this case as the other was a volunteer) surely we should be concentrating on improving Sheffield streets with more help points, CCTY systems and increasing the SYP budget to get more officers on the street. We should also (as a country) be looking at better punishments and detterants for criminals, so that it's not the case that the victim normally comes off worse than the criminal. In most cases of crime, it seems that it does pay. The Police do a good job in Sheffield, only to be let down when the law doesn't punish the guilty enough. Instead of putting two people on the streets in multicoloured packamacs and a van, lets put out real detterants with real powers of arrest. Also consider the fact that these two people have been named and may face revenge attacks from the accused and his mates etc. They have no real powers like the Police and to be honest could be put in dangerous situations where they are unable to cope with what happens. duffman 08-07-2004, 15:33 Originally posted by kirky ive seen them in the town centre...wybourn,manor,gleadless and other area's Are you talking about one group or the different schemes that are about? Do you mean the PCSO's? ive seen them in the town centre Well that would be me or the PCSO's. If you would like to go around with me on an average week you will see a different side to the job. In the past week I have delt with 4 mentally ill people who were either lost or who had run away. I have been involved in 4 arrest for shoplifting. Worked with the Enironmental services in clearing away some food and trade waste, got some grafitti cleared away and helped prevent a situation that could have gone into a fight. All this with being an iformation point for visitors etc. Last week I managed to get someone off the streets and back on their feet. http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/city-centre-pages/city-centre-management/city-centre-ambassadors http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/city-centre-pages/city-centre-management/city-centre-ambassadors/ambassadors-news These are our web pages that I wrote, soon to be added to by me aswell  |
