What is everybody's favourite TV advert of all time and why?

Public Information Films of the 70's & 80's Charley says...and that one with death don't play near water...and a polished floor is like a bear trap..think you can buy them on dvd now :?

I like the ones for bounty kitchen roll with the men dressed as women.
I like the 118 ones (radio and tv, radios probably better)
I like that skin cream advert with the really ugly buck teethed model who rubs the cream on her body and says it makes your skin tighter or soemthing (its supposed to be serious but i never take it that way cos of the model)
My favourite is the PG tips bird ones. I think theyre nicer than the monkey i dont care what anyone says.

I like the 11 88 88 directory enquiries advert. The song is so cheesy and annoying that its funny!

Alot of the Lynx adverts in recent times have been absolute classics!
Cave women putting coconuts in their bra's, swinging them above their heads and launching them at dinosaurs.. The famous "lighting match" advert where a guy has just had a shave, and on a date he tries to light a match by striking it on his cheek, it wouldn't light so the woman grabbed it and used her armpit to light it.. :lol:

im sorry, but THE single best TV advert has got to be the Flat Eric levis advert. The one where its just flat eric dancing to the tune in the car, and thats all it is for about a minuite.

The first time i saw that advert i fell on the floor in hysterics and couldnt stop laughing for about 10 minuites solid..

I like the old Boddingtons adverts with Melanie Sykes... "D'ya want a flake in that" and "yer look gorgeous tonight, pet" were two of my favourites.

The Corsa advert where they're playing hide and seek made me giggle.

The recent John Smith's adverts with Peter Kay make me PMSL too.

I like the Tango adverts.

The one with the apple being delivered by post going through a juicer via the letter box is one of the better ones.

Favourites of mine have included :

The Stella Artois advert where the guy has the plague.

The really cool one for a car company (Honda???) where they have all the bits of the car arranged so that each moves and then kicks the next one in to motion.

The recent '4 eggs' XXXX advert. Similarly the one with the guy wandering across the desert being tempted in to quick sand by beer up a tree.

The Gary Lineker (and friends) Walker's Crisps adverts.

The thing about not remembering what the ads are for is pretty common, especially with the more 'artistic' ads. But the advertising companies don't care, 'cos they'll have been paid for the work AND they'll get a shiny award at the end of the year! :)

The Guinness ad with the horses in the sea is still my favourite.

Intersting shift in style for Lynx.

I loved the original Boddingtons one, there the very classy lady is getting ready for a night out. She puts what you think is face cream on and rubs it in. Then this very dashing fellow walks up to her, is about to kiss her, sniffs her, and utters the immortal line: "By eck! You smell gorgeous tonight petal!"

The one with the car parts is good too. I assumed it was a computer animation. But I saw a programme recently where they showed you how it was done. They actually did it for real with all the bits triggering each other! Wow!

But my all time favourites were the cinema ads for Kickers. The one I particularly remember was for the Colin Sturridge Goat Sanctuary and was narrated by John Craven. It basically said that these poor goats were starving, so if you had any popcorn left you should pass it to the end of the row where it would be collected to feed the goats. Many a time I sat in the UCI 10 at Crystal Peaks and watched people actually do it!!!! The tag line was "Kickers: Well Stitched!"

It's always interesting when you watch and old film that you've taped off the TV from ITV or C4 and see the adverts that used to be around.

I've just realised that what I've just said is kinda sad...:huh:

The Knorr ones with the panda's tickle me! Although the Bolton accent seems to be a firm fave with people at the moment ... probably following on from the popularity of Peter Kay.

Love the Honda one mentioned above though with the car parts. Interesting to watch.

A recent post just reminded me how much of a TV advert obsessive I am. Some of them are little classics. Do you have any faves? Here's my top 5 (in no particular order):

I remember that one Wallbuilder - It was the Carling Black Label ad.

The cowboys and indians from one ad went into a make up ad and then they all went into a shampoo ad etc . . . . Great!

My favourite was the 'Hamlet cigars bloke' with the strand of hair. My favourite now is the Citroen 'Dancing' car ad.

Also, the WKD ads and the Reebok ad where the sofa chases the bloke around the room.

I cnt belive no one has mentioned the orange adverts yet! they are v funny! i know most of them are on at the cinema but they ahve a few on TV as well! who has seen them? who likes them and what is evry1s fav one? i like the one where they are interviewing sam from Lord Of The Rings thats funny! the darth vader one is good. i think nearly all of them have been gud so far except for one or two! what does evrybody else think?

Was reading in Marketing Week that this campaign was originally designed to be cinema only, but the ads were so successful that they've expanded it to include TV advertising. Very good ads those.

I'm also loving the Talk Talk ones being shown during BB at the moment, very clever.

Got to be the Honda advert where the dog approaches the car as if to take a leak up against it when, the car squirts the poor old dog with its headlamp spray. Teee heee

The one thats always cracks me up at the moment is the really cheesy bloke who looks like David Hasslehoff singing: '1.99 - it's just 1.99, 1.99' on some kind of eighties show.

i saw this advert earlier, in a pub so didnt realise what it was, thought i was watching discovery channel for minute, pure class!

Expect there has been one of these before as a topic but it's always a good idea to update this one.

My favourite advert is the old Cravendale one, not the current one with the cranberry coloured cows. I mean the one where the cows are going up in the lift and the window cleaner's cradle. It's funny, intelligent and makes you remember the product.

I love the Guiness evolution in reverse ad. Very clever.

The funniest Ad of all time, imo is an ad i used to see on MTV all the time, very long ago. It was Mr Phillips Super Stretch jeans. Dont know if anyone else would have seen it, but it is excellent. it didnt make me buy the jeans, but it was still good.

I loved the ''Charlie says'' safety ads and the one with the gas leak....can you remember when she went to switch the light on and the father shouted 'NO'!! LOL!!

I used to like the Scotch video tape adverts with the skeleton man watching his video over and over, having bought his tape years before he died and became a skeleton and the tape still working years later and singing a cover version of the Rolling Stones song Not fade away. He also had a pet skeleton parrot that would swing away on its perch in a cage.

I can't stand Guiness - wouldn't buy it - love the evolution ad though. Same goes for the Honda "hate something, change something" ad. I think you can admire the clever/funny ads without being hypnotized into buying the product.

The exceptions are the ads aimed at kids. particularly the McDonalds ads with that scary, freaky clown. Haven't they got rid of that monstrosity yet? They're trying to flog the swill as healthy these days too...

Shackleton's High Seat Chair add is a cult classic. It was so bad, even for the 80's, it was good (?) Sony also did a really good add in the 80's for their Trinitron TV..............It took you through life events, starting with birth, and all done on a sofa but speeded up. I'm a fan of the cheesier adverts such as "tile depot", "kingdom of leather" and "have you got the right" I'm also a fan of the "I was fitting an alarm and was given the wrong ladder, i fell crusing my hand and dislocating my left shoulder!"

I used to like that Vauxhall cavalier ad from a few years ago. A sales rep tries to get into a car park but finds his route blocked so he flicks it into reverse, does some high speed manoeuvres including running it up a ramp and driving it on two wheels through a narrow gap and finishes with a precision handbrake turn into a tiny parking space….he gets out of the car to rapturous applause from all the office workers, does a little bow, casually throws his jacket over his shoulder then performs an unintentional backflip when his jacket gets snagged in the door.

I Love the egg money adds with the Guinea Pigs:

I suppose the 1970s advert for disgusting 'Smash' in which alien beings roll around in hysterics and rough merriment at the earthling penchant for potatoes ['they peel them with their metal knives, then they smash them all to bits'] is a classic of the genre. As is the previously mentioned 'Shackleton's High Seat Chair' advert [ to continue the line recalled by mega monty, '...first she sent for their brochure, and then she visited their showroom...'] featuring a dear old lady hired from a dear old lady agency, probably near Leeds.

In recent times, an advert for 'Orange' mobile phones in which a lissom young woman in shorts highkicked and generally wiggled about the screen caused pleasure. As does, in a different way, the advert for the drink 'Umbongo', which is apparently favoured by children of the lower classes.

omg Iv read every single post in this thread but you have missed the daddy of adverts.

The John West tinned salmon advert with the bear.

It says how John West collect there salmon and a bear is in a woodland river pawing out salmon fish...only for a bloke to be sneaking up behind him and nicking the salmon! The bear soon latches on and goes to confront the bloke and gives him a swift martial arts spinning kick which floors the bloke. The bloke composes himself, gets back up and does the "look behind you" gag which the bear falls for and plants a knee right inbetween the bears legs which the bear groans in a pain all us blokes can emphasise with!

i think my favourite was an old advert for the x-box (surprise surprise it got banned!!) it started off with a woman in labour and then the baby shoots out and starts flying through the air at a tremendous speed, you see it fly over lots of different scenery and as you watch it it ages really quickly until it becomes an old man and then it crashes into a grave. the end of the advert says 'life is short, play more'

One of my faves has to be the creature comforts one, makes me chuckle everytime.

But the 1 that makes me cry is the cancer research one, where the people say " I shouldn't be here" and then the bride says " my mum should be here" with tears in her eyes, cant help thinking that'ill be me in 2 years time :(

It cracks me up when the first woman squeaks "Help, I've fallen down a well!" with accompanying trapped arm motions, then the second woman does a pinocchio-extending-nose motion with sound effects and they both burst into laughter. :hihi:

Yeah I still like the Honda chior and the clever dumb balance (mint card), But the Ben Affleck one is very funny and the beat at the moment. Normally adverts with celebs in are very poor, as they don't put them to good use, but this is great. The way he looks so impressed with his total only to get it wooped by the skinny guy in the lift, fab:hihi:

mines got to be the coke/pepsi (?) ad where a bloke is 'stuck' to the exterior of a high rise office building by sticky feet and hands and sumersaults down. I only have to see it come on TV and i start to giggle.

I like quite a few of the beer adverts - I quite like the one for a lager (Castlemain XXXX??) where two australian bushman are filling a truck with crate after crate of beer. After a while, the truck is full and one guy says 'Something for the sheilas?' whereupon a single bottle of sherry is put on the truck, which promptly collapses. The other bloke says something like 'I kew that was a bad idea.'

I also liked the Barclaycard adverts with Rowan Atkinson in.

or youve got arthritis. my neice got this from shackletons you know,
shackletons original high seat, never thought it`d be so easy to get in and out of. First she sent for their brochure , then went to the showrooms,
