Does anyone else think the flower 'Steel Man' outside the Town Hall looks like the Incredible Hulk?

I saw a picture of it in the "Star" and thought it looked awful

I realise that it has been known for me to critisise Sheffield in the past but have to say that the floral displays in the centre are ace this year.

PS I like the steel man especially the coconut effect hair

I don't mind the abundance of flowers outside the Town Hall, they look really nice, but the Steel Man still looks more like The Hulk than my Grandad LOL

I heard them describing the damn thing on the radio and was expecting to be impressed, but then I actually saw the thing on Friday night...looks cheap and nasty, I was worried it might fall on its arse at any moment.

Looks like someone isn't very happy about the comments made in this thread!

Personally I think its great fun. Its easy to trash this kind of stuff. Next time you pass this guy try and imagine how incredibly difficult it is to construct something like this. So much care and thought went into his every detail.

Failing that, go round the corner to the central lending library and borrow a book on the Chinese Cultural Revolution. You will then realise that sophomoric figurative flower sculptures are an integral part in living in a dynamic and interesting place, where the power of whimsy still rules the kingdom.

It's a good effort, but are the 6 foot railings that I saw last night always around it? They totally ruin the effect.

I just have the problem that Sheffield only seems to be able to do things on a steel / cutlery theme. Give it up Council, it's the past and Sheffield has lots more than just steel!

Fair point.. it's easy to knock other peoples efforts.. but I still think it looks like the Hulk.

They've got some of these flower sculptures in Doncaster too. Has anyone seen them?

One's a Jonny Wilkinson, which is pictured here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/funny_old_game/3637222.stm) but the most impressive one is a model of the Mallard train on a roundabout on White Rose Way.

Yes, it's a real talking point... and that's exactly the sort of event you get a lot of in Manchester (and many other big cities) but never ever see in Sheffield. The sort of thing that needs (and also supplies) that 'big city' feel that Sheffield just doesn't have.

I take my hat off to the Council Team for the flower and plant displays this year they have been absolutely stupendous. They put a lot of work and imagination into these displays and hopefully they won't read the negative tripe posted on here.
Congratulations Sheffield - good job, well done. I agree it is a shame that the plant man had to have a fence around to keep the vandals back.
