I think I may have left my wallet in a black cab on saturday night, and was just wondering if anyone one would have a contact number to be able to phone the head office up if there is one. I have looked in the yellow pages etc and have found nothing.

You 'll be lucky to get your wallet back. Sorry to be doom and gloom but if you do then it would be a miracle.

Kilo, yes its unlikely but if you report it to the police it may have been handed in.
Don,t hold your breath, but you never know.

You could try the police station?

would just like to say, not everyone is the same!!! he might have been a decent bloke, I found a mens ring once and handed it in and the guy was very grateful, he couldn't believe it..

About six years ago I was coming back from Gatecrasher one Sunday morning in a taxi. As soon the taxi pulled off after I'd got out, I realised I'd left my keys on the back seat. I shouted to the driver but he didn't hear me and drove off.

I then rang up one black cab firm who said it wasn't one of theirs, and that the majority of black cabs were managed by another firm (I forget the name now). I rang that firm later in the day but they didn't know who the driver was either. They did suggest, however, to leave a notice at the taxi rank at the train station, where the ticket office now is. I did this, leaving my mobile number (but obviously not my address!) I also went to West Bar police station and reported the keys lost, but I heard nothing from either place.

I don't check my seat much at night after passengers get out. The next person in is most likely to find the article not the driver.:o

that's what I'd have thought as well. However there are bent cab drivers particularly when it comes to change - so that's something to watch out for.

I left my wallet in a taxi a couple of years ago - the next fare found it and handed in to the police the next day. That's probably a good place to start looking.

Someone once left a suitcase in the back of my minibus on the way to Liverpool John Lennon, I wont tell you how much cash there was in it, but lets say he is probably still fuming about it now four years on.

Does anyone know the black cab lost property number? I might have left my phone in one last night and could do with it too.

Why not? they keep lost property for five years, then incinerate them.

All drivers know that any lost property should be handed in to the nearest police station, but as said above if depends on the honesty of the next passenger. Unfortunately you may have paid for someone's night out.

Left some shopping in a black cab once, knew immediately but just like Atticus the cab companies either denied it was them, or that they knew who to contact. Somehow I doubt its the next customer who is profitting, they much get loads of lost property. After all London transport gets false legs and teeth left behind as well as hundreds of umbrellas (been sad enough to track down lost property at their place in "man in the moon street" - was always losing stuff and as far as I recall, always got it back)

I once dropped my wallet in Sainsburys. I realised I'd not got it before I got out of the door. I walked back on myself and saw a man holding it out for people to see, and with a phone to his ear. He was just ringing my mobile number, which was in the wallet, and returned it to me when he saw my face matched my ID. Not all people are thieves.
