Can anyone tell me what the 2 gateposts are, or belonged to which stands on, I think its Richmond Road. They are down the road from the the Fishpond on the left hand side.
They look very old and i wondered if they could possibly be where the Woodthorpe estate began. i would be grateful to hear from anyone who knows.

The two large gate posts you are talking about are not from Woodthorpe Hall. They orginally marked the entrance to Sheffield Park. A guy named Burrowes Trippett who rebuilt Richmond Hall Farm had the gate posts moved to the entrance of his farm on Richmond Road of which you can still see today. The farm and its cottages were demolished around the late 1960's consequently to make way for flats that now stand on the site.

Woodthorpe Hall was demolished around the early 1930's of which the Woodthorpe estate was built on its grounds, Woodthorpe School was built about 1935.

Put the gates back on and a big fence around the estate, fence them in and there will be less crime!
