I spent a small fortune in the late eighties and early nineties in Afflecks Palace.

Off I would go on the train once a month with my wages and blow them all here.

Dis anyone else do the same? Is it still as good as it was back then?

I revisited it a few years ago but it just wasn't the same anymore. Is eastern block records still in Manchester too?

Ah, Afflecks Palace! I remember it fondly! We used to wander round there for ages. I haven't been for years though. I didn't realise it was still there.

A regular Saturday haunt for me in my student days in the late 80s early 90s.....I had my first hair wrap done there. Loads of great little stalls.

I used to head from there into the city centre. There was another arcade across from the Arndale Centre which sold lots of hippy and glam clothes, near the escalators which went underground. Then there was the hay market (I think that's what it was called) that had to be rebuilt after the bomb blast. Great for second hand vinyl, memorabilia and vintage clothes.

I used to go there a lot when shopping in Manchester, went last year it was still there, it was great for Gatecrasher type stuff, and everything was unique, not like High Street chain brand shops.

There is a bigger one in Birmingham aswell has anyone else been to that? I can't remember what it's called, but that's the same type of thing, in the City Centre.

Surely there would be enough interest in Sheffield for something of that size. I love afflecks and quiggins in Liverpool http://www.quiggins.com . spent a lot of time in the latter when i was a hippy kid teenager. We were convinced they put something magic in the coffee because it made us feel stoned. Maybe we were just stoned to start with though.

In case your interested and fancy wasting a minute, quiggens is being forced to close down due to a compulsory purchase order by the council. There is an on-line petition if you fancy showing support against this. http://3dpixels.com/formmail/

It would be a great shame to see it close as it's a part of so many peoples lives. If you like all shops of the afflecks type, please sign the petition.
