The wife and I want to move from where we live now trouble is it's an adapted house with a stairlift and a walk in shower, the wife has mobility problems. Rotherham council are'nt really bothered moving us as the property suits the wife's needs. So we are thinking about moving back to Sheffield. I've downloaded a registration form for housing, but I don't know what the areas are like now. I have relatives on Shiregreen and Parson Cross, used to live on Adkins Road 20 years ago. Can anybody tell me what they are like now? :help:

Are you talking about buying a property? It's just when you mentioned that the council won't move you in Rotherham, it made me wonder if you were renting from the council there or not, and were also looking to rent in Sheffield.

:) if you leave any estate and want to go back to it after 20 years, the chances are its totaly different now,all estates have there bad points and there good ones,i suppose you shall just have to take the chance, thats the only way of finding out for yourself,i dont think a lot of people would want to tell you if it is a bad area, because they could possibly get a telling off from those who think its not so bad, just my opinion,go with the flo lol

You're already in a council house thats adapted which suits your wife's needs. Unless you have a reason for needing to move such as needing to give or receive support, or you are overcrowded or suffering from harassment, you would be classed as being in accommodation appropriate for your needs. As council housing is allocated mainly on a basis of need, its not surprising that Rotherham don't see you as a priority.

It doesn't matter what estates you register for in Sheffield as the system of 'Choice Based Lettings' requires you to bid (register your interest) for properties when they become empty - and you can bid for any area of the city and any type of property that you are eligible for. 75% are let to people with priority, and 25% on waiting time - and if you read previous threads on the forum, people without any sort of priority have been waiting years for houses in Sheffield. The number of council homes has dropped considerably since you lived here previously, so it may be worth applying to housing associations as well.
