Did anyone see this last night?
It was very entertaining and I leant a lot. Didn't realise that The Goodies were so highly entwined in the 'footlights' era before.
And " Four Yorkshiremen" was originally TBT, Marty Fellman, John Cleese and Graham Chapman. I thought that was Python!
The actual acting in The Goodies was rubbish but the visual humour was hilarious, and expensive, it appears.
I haven't laughted like last night for ages when they talked about ' the puppet parliament '.
"What's that Prime Minister? Oh, you want to play your Xylophone." Genius!

Indeed, The Goodies were very much underrated and have never quite received the critical acclaim they deserved.
It still remains bizarre that their shows have never been repeated while the likes of Porridge, The Good Life and Open All Hours from that era are repeated incessantly.

the goodies were ace.
I loved porridge, so don't mind that being repeated.. could never get tired of it, (esp the late great Richard Beckinsale), but I cannot understand why it wasn't repeated, either.
open all hours was not bad, but IMO not as funny as Porridge.
the good life was not funny, it just seemed to be penny Keith's character, Margo, looking down her nose at Tom and Barbara, and Barbara (Felicity Kendall) going -
"oh, Tommmm!" a lot...

I've got to say that, in my younger years, I thought ' Open All Hours ' was crap.
But now I look at the repeats, ....... I have changed my opinion.
But 'The Good Life' was great.
Felicity 'sorry I'm an adolecent male ' Kenndal......What more can I say!
How ironic that the BBC repeat last years special "Return of the Goodies" program but not The Goodies.
The BBC is just a big con. I hate the conning, stealing, up its own arse, middle class, money-for-old-rope, Top Of The Pops axeing b#####d with a passion

The BBC can't show all of the Goodies' shows because some of them were made by Thames TV, which was an independant tv company, so the bbc don't have any rights to those shows.

It was only the final series that was shown on ITV. The BBC must have about 30-40 odd episodes in their vaults (if they've not lost them!).
I'd forgotton just how funny The Goodies were until I saw this programme
