Anyone spotted the loranordah types gathering at Sheffield City Hall this lunchtime - ppl to look out for - Dominic de Villepin - former french Foreign Minister in 2001, plus a few others.

Duffman tells me that this is why all the litter bins in sheff city centre have been covered in binliners. Interestingly, the state of bomb alert in my workplace is still black i.e. Lowest.....

So who's right?

Could be related to this:

Oh not could - definitely is related to this. lorandordah (law & order) types will be everyone.

My question to the forum at large is:

If all the city centre litter bins are taped off because of a bomb risk, how come my govt office is still on the same level of alert(black - lowest risk) , considering how central we are (1 min walk to Town Hall).

Perhaps you're less important than the contents of litter bins. :D

Because its easier to drop a bomb in a litter bin, than walk into a Govt building and plant a bomb, plus the VIP's are not going into your building I assume.

IMO these alerts are not really taken seriously in outlying govt offices, I have walked into loads with very little checking.

Anyway you working for the DWP now?

I'm sorry I cannot answer that. it's a secret.

But I did manage to get an acknowledgement from Dominique de Villepin as he arrived at the Town Hall. As all 6 cars in his calvacade pulled in he was momentarily level with me. Great bloke. I was going to try and enage him, but it didn't look too promising. Not sure what I'd have said tho..."le singe est dans l'arbre" maybe..

Sadly my phone battery was dead so no pics. :(

Are they planning which country they are going to invade next in the plans for world peace. Or is it just another waste of tax payers money and in which case why Sheffield?

I was going down the M1 earlier and it looked like a scene from the Bill with all the flashing lights and darkened windows.....so it was either DB and Co or some drug dealer doing the crack run.

The actual G5 summit is being held in Derbyshire. I have no idea as to why they were meeting and dining in the Town hall, probably because David Blunkett is from Sheffield. They had a photo shoot in the Peace gardens, walked through the Winter gardens then went.

wow.

like it is some "either / or" question.

Can't it be both or neither?

Cos it seems to be neither.

In fact, they are just having lunch in Sheff, although de Villepin wisely missed out on that (no menu Degustation available :) ) and then they'll be whisked off to Derbyshire for the heads together, and then dining in with the dowager duchess at chatsworth. whole thing will be over by tomorrow lunchtime.

Its a counter terrorism, erosion of civil liberties conference. So anti terrorist measures, biometric ID cards, RFID tech etc. will all be up for discussion.
