View Full Version : Killamarsh
OK, I've biten the bullet and I'm going to look for my first house.
There's one at Killamarsh that looks quite nice and it's not too far from my family either. Does anyone live at Killamarsh? What's the area like? Is there much crime?
Killamarsh is ok, I lived in the neighbouring village Eckington and the both places are similar. The new estates are the best on the edge the village. There is a large council estate in the middle but this isn’t particularly bad. There are plenty of pubs and a good bus service into Sheffield.
Can cost up to £20 in a taxi home from Sheffield at night though!
brummy_tracy 19-01-2005, 14:47 I lived in Killamarsh for 25years and I loved it there.
The schools are good, infants and juniors the comp is in next village Eckington.
The Motorway access is brill having acces to both junct 30 and 31 of the M1 having access to M18 and A1.
Its very central to Chesterfield, Sheffield, Rotherham, Worksop and Mansfield.
The locals are a friendly bunch and there are 13 pubs in a mile square. You cant loose.
Work has taken me to Birmingham its just not nice.
I agree Killamarsh is pretty good, especially now they have closed down The Crown pub.
EDIT wrong information, the pub that's closed down is the Navigation not the Crown. :help: :help: :help:

What happened to the Crown?
Do you know what they are going to do with it?

The word is that it's drug related, but the damned place has been nothing but trouble for years now. I hope they are turning it into flats.
BTW The Angel in Eckington has gone the same way, all boarded up.
brummy_tracy 22-01-2005, 16:00 As far as I remember The Angel was always a trouble spot.
I dont think Killamarsh will miss one pub.
It used to be where all the wedding partys had a few before the wedding at the church, a few nearly missed.

oh deary me    hides head in shame. The Navvy is the one that's been closed down Tracy, not the Crown.
steevie/d 22-01-2005, 16:11 if you like to go angling nice place to fish at kiverton hall farm some nice fish in the top lake :clap:and at k.j.s fisheries at killermarsh
brummy_tracy 22-01-2005, 16:15 Ah now that makes more sense The Navvy was always a trouble spot, underage drinking, drugs etc.
The old Navvy when it was a biker pub with the santa boots up the chimney, the little private booths and the bouy in the middle of the room, was the best there wasnt any trouble then.
Before they refurbished it in the late 80's and it became a youth club.
jonsastar 22-01-2005, 16:35 If you like fishing you will be in a good spot, as theres some good fishing up killamarsh.
I agree with that jonsastar there is also one in the Rother Valley Country park.
Bad_Hair_Day 27-01-2005, 11:48 Killamarsh is great. There's plenty of shops, some nice (and a couple of not so nice) pubs, plenty of takeaways, good bus routes, close to motorway, countryside, bike tracks, fishing, watersports. The locals (Marshians) are really friendly, there's definitely still a village feel to the place - Killamarsh - you'll never leave!

Is there much crime? my parents have just moved there, personally i hate it round there, it just seems scruffy and yukky in most of the places. it is near rother valley though which is good, and near tram stop ish. The place just feels a bit "village-like", you know like stocksbridge? where they have their OWN RULES? There are some really nice little estates though and very good chippy!
i work in killamarsh and my boss lives there, i think hes in the better part towards the outskirts though because its a bit crap in the centre and full of OAP's!!! its ok travelling there everyday but its a good job a get to leave again...

I lived their for 20+ years before getting my own place and the massive building of houses in the last 10 years hasn't done it any favours.
as all us oldies say 'i can remember when all this was fields', theres too many people living in a small area with little to do, which means groups of 'youngsters' all over the place.
Its still not too bad near the outskirts but i wouldnt want to live anywhere near the center near the shops, however, its not as overpriced as Halfway.

A local place for local people :D
Everybody is related in some way, shape or form ............ the cross-eyes prove it. So if you cross one person I can guarantee you upset half the village.
It's a reasonable place to live, I did for 10 years.
mobilenats 04-10-2008, 22:25 the navigation was the best pub ever,ad many a good time ther and i was in my late 30s,u can ask anybody in marsh and they will say the same,
The Nav was a true Doss-hole for the dysfunctionals of killamarsh the day it was closed was a day to remember and good riddance to it. Soon the Nag will be yet another distant memory.
