I was wondering what happens to the stuff that gets 'rescued' at the recycling centres? The other week I saw a Dyson to one side and asked iof it was being recycled they said 'no, it was going to be saved'. It was only after I begain to wonder what that meant, obviously its some form of recycling, but do they go to charity, council houses or other needy causes? or are they sold on by the staff?

Also, a few times we've taken the time to sort our rubbish only to be told to stick it all in household waste - even the green stuff. I have seen them jumping in and sorting stuff previously. My partner reckons they prefer to sort it themselves when they can so they know its being done right. Is this the case?

These are genuine questions I would like the answer to, call it natural couriousity, please don't turn it into another thread about how useless Sheffield Council, Onyx or the bin men are because to be fair the staff there are usually lovely. Thanks.

Thanks, is that the Onyx place just off the main Attercliffe road? or is this a private place? I'll have a look next time I got to the Snake Shop.

I wondered exactly the same thing when I saw a dyson at the tip. I was always told something about them becomming the property of the tip and therefore no one else can claim them, even if the tip don't want it!

On the sorting front, we usually do, but had been having a clear up of the garden and had hardcore, some plastic and green waste all together (only big bag we had). The man insisted we split it all, despite us having no gloves etc, offered no help and just watched over us, telling me 'it won't hurt you love', talk about patronising, I wanted to scream-not to mention that it was a thorn bush and actually it did hurt-a lot!!

There was an article on Radio 4 about an hour ago regarding recycled computers being sent to Nigeria with lots of personal details still on the hard drive. This was in Essex but it could heppen anywhere.
