Sheffield Cycle Speedway Club

Do you enjoy cycling, are you interested in cycle racing? If so why not come to the Greaves Tennis and Leisure Centre at Norton on Monday evenings at 7.45. We are a small club with aprox 30 members, our youngest rider is 7 and our oldest is 47.Cycle Speedway started in the UK in 1946 and quickly expanded all over the country, leagues were formed, and the sport spread to Holland,Sweden,Poland,Australia and most recently the USA.

It has been described as the most extreme Cycling sport in the world, its fast, furious, exciting and the bikes have no brakes!!

Everybody is welcome as there is racing geared to your ability, you can do as little or as much as you want.

We have bikes available for you to come and try it and your first session is free, if you wish to join the club it costs £2 per training session there after. Some of our members come from Road racing and Mountain biking and BMX backgrounds, however the majority come from purely recreational cycling back grounds.

Why not come and have ago? If you would like more information you can e mail me at shaun@swhudson.f9.co.uk

there used to be a track there and on the field opposite the filling station on Wordsworth Ave. You can still make out the cuttings..

I guess its a forgotten sport, much like speedway itself.

The Wordsworth Ave track will re-open next year, work is due to start May 2005. The sport is still going strong and growing in the UK it has recently been introduced to the USA.
