In an attempt to stick to the new years resolution to "do more" am considering taking up ballroom dancing - any ideas where to go as a total beginner?

Hello Sarah

If you are wanting to try to learn ballroom dancing, there's a society you could join.

It's run by the local universities, but you don't have to be a student to join - - anyone can!

It's called Sheffield Universities DanceSport Society.

Click on their website to find out more about them:

http://www.shef.ac.uk/dancesport/

I hope this will be a help to you.

Regards, and Happy New Year.

Rob

Thanks for that Rob - I looked at them before but thought it was just for students. Have you been - is it good?

Happy New Year to you too!

I have to admit to you, Sarah, that I've not yet been to any of their meetings, but I have friends who have, and they're very impressed with that society.

I've met a few of their members, and they seem to me a very friendly bunch, very enthusiastic and understanding how beginners feel.

Gisele, on their committee, is a particularly nice person who would give you a really warm welcome. (See website for contact details.)

I'm kept busy with a couple of other dance societies (for Salsa), and of course you would be extremely welcome to join us! To give us a try, you could come along to The Forum any Tuesday night and join in the fun. Lessons 7.30 until 10PM, and free for everyone after that time.

Ask for me, if you're shy. I'm always there! OK? ;)

Bye for now,

Rob

Went to a group ballroom and latin dancing class the other night and it was brilliant. The only problem is the girl I went with can't make it on a regular basis, so I need a partner. Anyone fancy it?
-Don't mind dancing with another girl

I did beginnners' courses in general ballroom and in salsa a few years ago. Am a middle aged male but would be interested in going to Beighton classes.
