Did you have an original one ? I remember someone that did - it was such a cool thing at the time. Cant wait to get a digital music Walkman when they come out :P

There is an online museum of all Sony products here if you wanna see the older bits of kit.

There have been over 300 walkman designs so far apparently. The mind boggles

Wow! 25 years!
OMG makes me feel so old . . I remember wearing it with pride and annoying everyone on the bus with the music up full. It had those horrendous spongy-type earphones which I soon ditched for the trendy inner ear spongy-type things!! LOL.

Funny thing is, I've actually still got it from about 15 or 16 years ago, it's white and has a design of New York city on it called 'city beat'. Hope it's worth a few bob.

We've got one of the first discman's, it was amazing at the time lol.

Reading up on these new "ipod beating" walkman's is laughable. According to sony it wont accept MP3s and the only music you can put on it is what you buy from their online store "Sony Connect" :|

Its ok for peeps like me that wanna record CDs onto a portable device. It can also be used to transport information. Have a look here for the press release

Battery life is 30 hours, with 25 minute skip-protection, g-force sensor and automatic transfer of new files. Oh, and it stores more on a smaller disc than i-pods do. Just love Sony stuff anyhow so gotta get one come September

What that doesnt tell you is it can only store more than an ipod when its at 48kbps :loopy: (aka a 96kpbs mp3) which sound awful.

In terms of technology and quality the Ipod and Toshiba's mp3 player are well ahead of the game.

And you'd have to go through the riggamarall of ripping all your CD collection (and in my case again) to a lossy format (ATRAC).

I think i'll stick with my ipod ;)

Hmm, 25 years..
Catalog price was 33000 yen in Japan. ( 166.33 pound at today's exchange rate)

My sister bought a first model with her allowance saved for it. She was rich but her brother...
