I know this should be on Computer Tech chat, bless 'em they do try and help but use a lot of jargon I don't understand. What I need to know in very simple terms is how do "download" music onto a cd? I do have a "burner" on my computer(now who's jargonising?) and where and how do I find said music?
Thanks for any :help:

To copy music to CDs, you just need some CD burning software to go with your writer, Nero is pretty good, which you can download a trial of from here (http://www.nero.com) or there's also Easy CD Creator (http://www.roxio.com) although IMO Nero > Easy CD Creator.

As for where to download music, discussion of P2P etc is against the rules,

Isn't writing posts in bold against the rules as well, Rich? Which you do regularly?

And also, they never mentioned anything about P2P software - they could have been asking about iTunes or any of the other legal download services.

Apology probably in order there are plenty of legal download sites for music and there does not appear to be any reference to any illegal activity in the question.

Rich, there are many ways of downloading legal music. Have you heard of things like itunes. Many bands websites as well as their Myspace accounts have free downloads.
He really is a cretin.

Thats cool rich but.... this i beleive is simpler;

1. put a blank cd in
2. from the box that pops up select 'open folder to write files'
3. in the window that opens copy the songs you want to write into it
4. from the side menu select 'write these files to disc'
5. if asked choose whether you want to write a cd that will play in any cd player, or select to write a data cd... this is MP3 (depends what you want to do with the disc you write)
6. just watch in wonder and awe as it writes your disc.
7. not allowed on here to tell you where to download music except for buying it off summat like itunes (pm me your email or msn for some naughty links that only naughty people use, i.e. 99% of net users)

This assumes i've remembered the sequence correctly and that you already posses the music on your computer and the pc you are using is windows xp. I'm sure if i'm wrong someone on here will be very quick to point it out... computer nerds are like that, they just love to laugh at ppl (like me) who are not tech minded but we can smile in the knowledge we get sex once in a while ;)

ok boys please stop bickering

Anyway, yes burning illegally downloaded/ ripped music onto another CD is illegal, however, the instructions given by Rich for CD burning software are right, as long as its either your own music or music you have legally downloaded.

I'm afraid i don't know sites where you can legally download music, some other forummers might be able to help you with that one :)

Try iTunes, MSN Music, and Napster. A simple Google search should shed some light :)

There is some good information here (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/free-music-for-your-ipod/) regarding downloading music, and if you scroll down there are loads of links to places where you can download music legally.

it is aimed at ipod users but ignore that as downloading music to your pc is just the same no matter where your going to put it afterwards :)

No need to apologise as you didn't do anything wrong.
