I love that word. It is still in use altough tends to be applied to most very alternative shops.....PIPPY's in the early 80's used to describe itself as a boutique, as did various similar stores around town. Cant think of any shops using the word now in their name......

Boutiques were all the thing in late 60's and throughout the 70's usually associated with hippie clothing shops and Carnaby street style fashions....

Didn't there used to be a 'boutique' around Pinstone Street/Cambridge Street that was called Sexy Rexy? As a very young child, I thought this was a very rude name for a shop!!
