How come I have told my mother that I have an ear or throat infection and she manages to make me feel guilty for not insisting on a sooner doctor's appointment than next monday.

I'm sorry, but I am not going to insist that it is an emergency, the worst that is going to happen is I will feel ill for a couple more days than otherwise before I can get some antibiotics to clear it up.
