Geoff 16-06-2003, 07:00 PM What about good old Charlotte? :P RPG 16-06-2003, 07:03 PM none of them, its just not the same without him :( kittykat 16-06-2003, 07:08 PM William Hague was the best. He wasnt big headed and hes down to earth and from what i recall he didnt seem to be as obvious that he was reading an autocue, not like charlotte who made it blatently obvious, as did that actor guy a few weeks ago (cant remember his name) t020 17-06-2003, 01:07 AM I think William Hague was one of the better ones too. He showed he has a lot more about him than IDS, as he also used to show in the House of Commons during prime ministers questions. He should still be the leader of the Tories in my opinion and would've made a good prime minister. He also comes across as being honest, unlike President Blair. Y2J 18-06-2003, 11:35 PM I think they should make Martin Clunes the new permanent presenter. :D :) mitziwillow 05-12-2004, 08:08 PM Des Lynham's great as a presenter. noseyrosie 05-12-2004, 08:23 PM Bring back Angus!!! duffman 05-12-2004, 08:48 PM As much as I would like to see Angus back I think Boris Johnson should take over. StarSparkle 05-12-2004, 09:02 PM Originally posted by duffman As much as I would like to see Angus back I think Boris Johnson should take over. Spot on, Duffman! Been watching the re-runs with Angus on sky tv, and I'd honestly forgotten how excellent he was! Just the right amount of knowingness. But I don't suppose he will be back. If Angus isn't to return, then Boris is the man. Complete natural on the telly, you just know he can't possibly be that scatty in reality. Or then again ....... Either way, he's great entertainment. StarSparkle eviljock 05-12-2004, 09:32 PM If you saw Neil Kinock (oops, sorry Lord Knobedd) the other night, you'd appeciate how well the many, many others had done in replacing the un-replaceable Angus Deyton. Lord I've Got A Pension For Life And It's Index Linked had all the charisma and timing that lost us the election in 92. Only good thing about it was the panelists obviously loathed him as much as I do. JoeP 05-12-2004, 11:28 PM I'll go with Boris, if they can't admit they were wrong and let Angus back. He's one of those rare entities - an interesting and amusing politician who isn't afraid to say what he thinks, even if it gets him in trouble. And with his extra-curricular activities Boris could well progress into the highest levels of politics.....:) Joe Cols 05-12-2004, 11:59 PM Just seen the repeat with Kinnock in the chair. He was ripped to pieces. I almost felt sorry for him...... WallBuilder 06-12-2004, 12:43 AM I don't think that anybody is ever going to be a good replacement to Angus, he was just so good at what he did. Boris although entertaining is rather too two dimensional for my liking and I find his constant portrayal as the buffoon a bit wearing. Maybe they should just leave it as it is with a variety of hosts which means we might get to see a slightly more human side to many of our Tv celebrities particularily when Paul and Ian start pulling them apart. I tend to find Charlotte entertaining because I'm a guy although I did find it amusing as she talked about winning 'rear of the year' chill 06-12-2004, 11:42 AM From what I can tell, Merton and Hislop hate Angus, and are probably too stubborn to let him back. Would he want to come back anyway? I liked having different presenters for a while, but it is getting a bit tedious now, especially when you get someone as bad as Kinnock was. Boris was great, but I think the joke would wear thin pretty quick. ranmoorboy20 06-12-2004, 01:11 PM Originally posted by noseyrosie Bring back Angus!!! Agreed, Rosie :) timo 06-12-2004, 03:19 PM I thought William Hague was easily the best; stylish, confidant and genuinely witty. Re Kinnock, I have never been a fan of the man as a politician, nor do I think he is particularly witty or adept at television presenting. However, I was genuinely disgusted by the cowardly treatment he received on the programme. The other panelists went too far, in my view, and the result looked vulgar and inappropriate indeed. The female panelist [whose name eludes me] engaged in an achingly- unfunny attempt to bully the man, and exuded hostility under the "clever-Dickess" veneer she adopted. It is easy for experienced comic performers to run rings around the likes of Kinnock on tv. A little like what would happen if I entered the boxing ring with Lennox Lewis. However, note what happens when "funny" men and "funny" women [like the female panelist whose name I can't remember, when she made a first rate prat of herself on Question Time recently...] try to do something outside of THEIR sphere. Usually they fall flat on their faces. Bah! What a set of childish, vindictive, overpaid twonks. nick2 06-12-2004, 03:25 PM Bruce Forsyth - I know, I'm sad, but I realy like Brucie. Agent Dan 07-12-2004, 06:05 PM Kirsty Young. Quality on room 101 too... Fletch 07-12-2004, 06:50 PM Bring back angus i say!! he was soooo much better than the rest!! Mods could you add an option on the poll that is "bring back Angus!!!"????? Nice one, Timo. I could barely watch the programme the other night I felt so embarrassed by the pathetic bullying done by the panellists. It was very big and brave of them to turn on Kinnock 4 against 1. He kept his dignity better than they did, in the circumstances. Will Self in particular made himself look a complete prima donna prat. I can remember Kinnock's 'Guts at Goose Green' comment on "Question Time" - the day any of those panellists make a comment as memorable and as genuinely controversial as that, is the day I'll pay attention to what they have to say. Very disappointing. StarSparkle JoeP 07-12-2004, 07:19 PM Originally posted by StarSparkle Will Self in particular made himself look a complete prima donna prat. StarSparkle Actually, with those side burns Will Self looked like some sort of Victorian melodramatic villain..... It wasn't big and it wasn't clever of the panel. Joe timo 07-12-2004, 08:10 PM Glad that Joe and the gorgeous Starsparkle agree with me here. I wondered if I was being too "sensitive", as some would say that anyone who puts themself in that position is a fool anyway [Paxman has wisely declined the offer, knowing full well what he would receive]. However, I'm glad that others disapproved. Personally, I find Hislop a rather self-righteous little twerp. So, apparently did the late, sublimely brilliant Auberon Waugh [to whom Hislop endlessly sucked-up]. Waugh, prince -elect of English satirical journalism, quite rightly viewed Hislop as an "oik". He seems permanently stuck in the lower-sixth form, to me- a world of "in-jokes", innuendo and all boys together camaderie. Notice too how clever women make him rather nervous. I recall his loathsome treatment of the late Paula Yates, where his true colours emerged for all to see. He affects a gentlemanly manner, but is in truth a perfectly vulgar little prig. Boris is the real thing; well-mannered, courteous, generous and never a bully; a true gentleman. Alex cczmark 08-12-2004, 06:35 PM Dara O'Briain on one of the previous series was hilarious. Martin Clunes & William Hague both good. I think they should steer clear of the politicians as almost all of them are distinctly unfunny which to my mind is the main point of a comedy show.... Kthebean 07-11-2005, 11:18 PM Originally posted by nick2 Bruce Forsyth - I know, I'm sad, but I realy like Brucie. Nooooooo. Nick I thought you were a man of taste! That episode was just wrong. Zinger549 08-11-2005, 12:16 PM Jeremy Clarkson  ianbrownfan 08-11-2005, 12:43 PM I think they should get Stephen Fry or Rowan Atkinson to do it. Would be hilarious. Angus Deayton was as good as anybody. crowefan 09-11-2005, 03:15 PM dara o brien was by far the best!!!!! banesmabes 09-11-2005, 05:10 PM The two I thought were best were the two I thought I'd least like, and that's William Hague and Bruce Forsyth. I thought the Brucie episode was just classic - the look on Ian Hislop's face was class. But, I don't think it would work again. It was a one off, they got all the gags out of the catchphrases and the games, but it wouldn't work long term. William Hague really surprised me - he seemed to be genuinely funny, rather than just reading off an autocue, and was very adept at presenting. Got to mention Boris, who was so hilarious because he didn't seem to know what the hell was going on. samc 09-11-2005, 05:47 PM Boris. I hope he does another this series. And agree with Banesmabe about William H and Bruce F. Didn't think they'd make me laugh but they did. sugarnspice 09-11-2005, 05:51 PM Haven't voted yet. Still missing Angus! Yodameister 09-11-2005, 08:44 PM I think Boris Johnson was good as a one off, but you couldn't have him all the time, he'd just steal the show every week. You are viewing an archive.
