Is it just me (it probably is) or do other people agree that all soaps seem obsessed with storylines about people having girlfriends/boyfriends, especially teanage characters.
I stopped watching all soaps years ago as I found these storylines increasingly depressing. However, my Mother watches quite a lot of them though and from time to time I catch the odd glimps while getting ready to go out or whatever. Also, there are many references to such storylines in the press and other TV shows.
I used to think the worst ones were Australian soaps such as Neighbours and Home and Away but I think the English ones are pretty much as bad.
Soaps are the Pot Noodle of television aren't they? I hate myself for watching them when my missus and daughter have them on but find I know EXACTLY whats going off.. especially Corrie.
i HATE Eastenders with an absolute passion though.. so bloody grim

I prefer to watch more news and political shows these days. This may sound strange but I find them escapist compared to the soap storylines.
It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't on so much. Apart from Saturday they are on for at least an hour every night and sometimes much more. I just think it is excessive and there should be more of a variety of Tv programmes. I don't want to watch hours and hours of Boreanation Street, Eastendless, Emmerdale yawn etc etc etc.
Agree totally 2 Corries a week was enough.. I really can't stand any of the others.
I was saying the other night that there isn't a decent comedy or travelogue show on at the moment.. I ought to read more than I do. Its just to easy to flop down in front of the goggle box.
I avoid the current rash of 'Worlds Worst..", "Something From Hell" type progs too
I've been an avid Neighbours fan for years... Used to watch Home and Away as well till they moved it to Channel 5 and decided to put it on at 6PM when I'm usually in the middle of tea or Dad wants "normal" telly on (we can only get C5 through Sky)...
I hate Eastenders as well, used to like it cos I fancied a couple of the girls on it such as Tiffany, aka Martine McCutcheon, and the original Sam Mitchell (Daniella Westbrook).
Funniest thing was though, I developed an almost perfect scouse accent just from 5 years of watching Brookside!

haha you fancied one of the celebrity chavs, (daniella westbrook) think that was before she went downhill tho to be fair ;)
I used to watch Brookie when I first started going out with the missus in the early 80s when they had Damon (?) on it. It used to be on when I got back from playing footy on Saturday teatime at the (now) mother in Laws.
Is it still on now? I can't have seen that for 20 years.

they axed it i think, it went to the "graveyard slot" then went altogether! good riddance hehe, remember the jordaches tho, the whole patio disaster, lesbian kiss etc etc
It's not just TV. Films do it too, they always manage to slip in the token love story. Die Hard? should be called Divorce hard etc etc.
