What are they supposed to do.

I pick my daughter up and they are parked so they can see the junior achool and the senior school.

Kids that should be at school laugh at them sat in their van. Are these people supposed to stop them and ask why they are not in school or do they just turn up and sit there then fill in there forms to saw school attended.

I have no idea what they achieve, as the same kids are out of school all day everyday.

Do we the tax payers pay for the NON service, why?

Can I suggest that you ask the head teacher what the role of these police is meant to be? Once you have established that then ask him/her if they are satisfied that the role is being carried out satisfactorily.

Alternatively, approach the police themselves and ask them what their role is. If you are not satisfied with the answer from any of them then refer the matter to the school governors by way of a letter or approach one of the governors if you know who they are.

Failing all that, go to one of your local councillors' surgeries and raise the issue with one of them.

Details of councillors for Southey ward (which I think includes Parson Cross now) can be found here: Southey councillors (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/sys_upl/templates/PT_Councillor/PT_Councillor_details.asp?mapid=32&tid=69&pgid=921)

A few months ago now I was walking from broomhall into town where the path is divided into 2, one half a cycle path the other a foot path.

I was walking along minding my own business when i was stopped by one of these community police for, i kid you not, walking with one foot on the cycle path side of the line. At first I thought he was joking but then made it perfectly clear he wasn't. Why aren't these people doing proper work instead of finding stupid trivial things to go off on a power trip about.

Approach the headteacher or the governors first. In my experience if you question police, they get really shirty and try to turn it into your fault.

I was not aware this was an offence - did you get the PC's number and make a complain against harrasment? However, I'm not really surprised, it's the usual bully-mentality that the Police seem to be taking these days.

haha. i wouldnt catagorise the community police as useless, its the few individuals that are. the community police reduced car crime massively in the student areas, and especially round netheredge, there has been so much change in crime, street crime etc. So they dont just sit on their arses all day.

i have little respect for some sheffield police.
i was driving to work one early morning (5:30) and was persude by a panda car with 2 officers.
when i pulled over 'taken off my seat belt' and climbed from my car i was asked to sit in the back of the police car,
when i asked what the problem was,
i was told i wasent wearing my seat belt, and slapped a £30 fine
i know i could have taken this to court, but as they were 2 officers bullying me in to a £30 fine,
what chance would i have in court? id probably end up paying more in court costs.
so i just paid the £30

you should have just reported them. youd be suprised at the support you would get. some people are just generally bullies, not just police, your boss, your neighbour etc.

all the inncodents involving police i have had over the years, not for things that i have done, but mainly helping them with enquiries, have not been nice in any way.
i have learnt that the police mentality dose seem to be
a 'guilty untill proven innocent' one :(
i have been picked on, on two occasions when i was a child by police officers, accused of things i had no involvment in:-
one of them was lighting a fire on school grounds and there wasent even a fire there??.
and when helping them with enquiries on more than one occasion, iv hear nasty comments towards the ethnic comunity and told racist jokes trying to amuse me. they did not!!

after this seatbelt inncodent, i have just lost all faith in the police.

apparently their role is "to provide a police presence".

Its Blunketts way of saying you're safe. Yeah right....have you seen the pair patrolling meadowhall - you're on your own mate if anything kicks off.

I'd feel safer with my little sisters presence.

Yet more proof that David Blunkett needs to either quit or get fired from his job as Home Secretary, the man is about as much use as a right handed sales assistant in a shop selling stuff for left handed people.
