Hi everybody, I am the mother of a 4.5 month old and will be moving from Canada to Sheffield (Walkley) in the middle of September.

I was wondering if there were any new mum's groups, or mum's and babies groups, or anything like that in the area.

Thanks.

Hi,
where in walkley are you moving to? i don't know about mother and baby groups, but i'm a mother with a 2 month old baby who lives in walkley, if you fancy a chat some time. PM me if you're interested in comparing nappies or whatever!

I've been going to pregnancy yoga in Walkley and I've seen a poster in the community centre advertising mums and baby groups. Sorry I can't be more specific but at least you know there is one now and where to find the info on it :)

Sheffield Anglican Cathedral is set to launch a new group for parents and young babies. Aimed especially at first-time parents, Little Fishes is an opportunity to come and enjoy the company of other parents, and chat over a cup of coffee and biscuits. Whatever your faith, this is a place to find friends, support, and fun in the welcoming cathedral community.

We'll be meeting on Wednesday afternoons from 2.45 to 4.15pm, beginning on the 11th October. Pram or wheelchair access is through the single doorway off the Cathedral forecourt. It will be led by Joanne Grenfell, who is a mum of two, as well as an Anglican priest, and Ann Ashworth, who works with children at the Cathedral.

Contact Canon Dr Joanne Grenfell (263 6064, or joanne.grenfell@sheffield-cathedral.org.uk) for more information.

sorry, i'm not from chapeltown, but if you do internet searches for groups, you'll probably get more hits with mummy and baby groups rather than mommy and baby. aside from that, when you register with a gp you could ask them to give you the number of the health visitor (i guess you'll be assigned one anyway, as you have a 6 month old baby) - they should be able to point you in the right direction for your area.

We're opening one in Sheffield City Centre in a few weeks, a 3 day a week drop in centre so people can have a coffee and adult chat while their kids play in safety and a nice social environment.
It also means you can go and shop in town but break it up for the kids with a play and coffee or end with it.
Also planning to do crafts and so on, plus refreshments for the little ones and eventually bring and buy sales etc.

No, I should have mentioned it will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
We won't be registered to care for other people's children, just to have the children and parents there. However, as time goes on, I daresay that friends will drop by and leave their kids with me as a personal arrangement which is legal.
I would imagine a lot of friendships will be forged as a result of Jellytots.

Your best bet is to try the library in Chapeltown for info.

I do know that there is a PARENT and toddler group (I'm a dad you see) which runs out of Newton Hall in the middle of Chapeltown. We used to go on a Thursday morning but I think it is on on 3/4 mornings per week.

Jellytots is in the city centre and open to Mums and Mums to be. We reopen on Jan 8th. mondays, Wednesdays and Frodays, 1- 3pm.
Based in the lower hall of the Victoria Methodist on Chapel Walk, our entrance is opposite the doors of Superdrug and you can either follow the signs or ask someone at reception to guide you to our room.
We have breast feeding cushions, high chairs, hot/cold drinks and biccies, toys galore, electric baby swings, bouncey seats, playrings, playgyms, trikes, crafts, books, changing facilities, singing, story time, bottle warming etc etc and although we are new we want to promote ourselves to pregnant women too.
Our youngest member is 5 weeks old (or two months pre-birth if you really want to look at the youngest one I suppose) and the older kids are up to around 3 years of age.
Women from all walks of life, great for a chat and convenient to take a break from shopping or as a regular member.
I shall even go so far as to say - bring a friend and you have have free access for a week!

Hi,
I run fitness classes for Mums-to-be & New Mums in Dore S17. Each class runs for an hour and can only take 8-10 people per class. I am fully insured and hold the Central YMCA qualification level 3 in Instructing Physical Activity for Ante & Post Natal exercise. It's a great opportunity to meet others sharing the same experience. Classes are booked in advance and all women are pre screened before engaging in exercise.

There are so many benefits to exercising during pregnancy including helping in controlling excessive weight gain, improved sleep, faster post natal recovery and easing labour & delivery. After the birth of your child, you can work on regaining your pre pregnancy weight/figure.

You can expect to follow a simple, gentle, low impact aerobic routine for 30 mins, followed by 10 minutes toning, 10 minutes pelvic floor exercises and 10 minutes stretch and relaxation.

My classes are suitable for beginners to exercise as well as those having exercised before the pregnancy. All equipment including mats and weights are provided and I use a radio microphone similar to those in Health Clubs. I regularly teach for Fitness First, Esporta and Virgin Active.

If you require any further information, please contact me direct at Blooming Exercise by email leigh.a.brown@hotmail.co.uk or 07909 985 614

Hi all, I have been requested by my missus to ask as we don't have internet access @ home:

She is looking for a mother & baby group where she can interact with other young mums and our daughter can interact with other babies in or around the city area, the only problem is and this isn't down to racism (I hope you understand) that she is hoping for groups of young white, british mothers as all the groups around us that she knows of are populated by older and/or asian/african mothers who she cannot relate to. If you have any information for her then please let me know either by PM or email and i'll pass on your comments, thanks in advance. :)

All the info you could need about recommended groups can be found here: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=181676 under Baby and Toddler groups and other ways to stay sane.
Obviously there are no groups which are exclusive to one race or another, that would be wrong and most likely racist, most have a mix but in our list I can only speak for my own group - Jellytots, which is mixed in race and age but there's always someone to relate to and all are welcome.

The Pavilion at the bottom of Meersbrook Park always used to have frequent (? daily)parent baby and toddler sessions. It was known as the Playcentre and may well still be on there.
Have you tried contacting the Children's information centre for a list of groups? Its on Leopold St but I'm sure there'll be a number in the phone book.

We've got a megathread with lots of links about groups here:

You might find it useful to have a peek on there.
And, in my signature at the bottom of this section is a clickable link to the group I run in the city centre. We're open this afternoon too!

St James's Church have a mother and baby group run by a lady called Paula - you will be able to get her tel no for more details by contacting the parish or checking the boards outside.

My little boy is at school now and approaching 5 yrs old - but when he was a small baby they used to be groups meeting at the Rose Garden Cafe for pram pushes and storytime readings with a local gran etc

Hi, I am 22 and have a two year old and a 9 month old and we (all 3 of us!) need to socialise!! I live at S17 and my other half always has the car for work so I tend to be a bit stuck for transport and buses scare the life out of me with a twin pushchair and the two little ones. Anyone know of any local baby/toddler groups or have any helpful suggestions as to how we can all get out and meet new friends? I have heard of a few baby/toddler groups and the jellytots one in city centre sounds great but it scares the life out of me coming on my own so the buddy idea sounds great to me. Anyone who is in a siimilar situation or lives locally and knows of a more local baby/toddler group they would be willing to take me along to?! Know I'm asking a lot but just need a little push/help to get me and my little ones along to a much needed social group!

Not sure if this one is to far out for your wife but i go to a parent and toddler group on Carlton Rd (Rd that runs Up By KFC) off Middlewood Rd, Hillsborough.

Its open Monday and Thursday 9.30 - 11.30, lovely friendly group, with loads of quality toys, and it will also be running through the summer Holidays.

I'm posting on behalf of Mrs Camrat. As some of you may know we had a baby boy 6 weeks ago now and Mrs Camrat (age 26) was thinking of taking him to a baby group of some sort. She doesn't really know anyone else with a baby and would like to meet other parents. Does anybody go to or know any nice friendly groups she could try?
We live in S13 but she would be willing to travel.
Does anybody on here live near by?

I know they used to run them in 2005 as I ran a group there too. I haven't been in the area for a while, so not sure if they are still there. The fellow who looks after it, is really nice I'm sure if you give them a bell he will be able to tell you if there are any toddler groups still running there.

Ideally Nether Edge, Heeley, Millhouses, but would also consider Crosspool or Fulwood.

hi amzy! when will the childrens center be opening?

Not sure at the moment, the building is ready (just a few snagging things to get finished off!)
We are just in the process of ordering equipment/ resources/ etc and meeting with local services (Midwives/ Health Visitors/ Advice Worker/ and many more) to sort out 'core' services that will be running from the centre.
We want to get it up and running ASAP, probably looking at September at the moment but it will hopefully be before then! We will be having a big launch event for parents/ etc, I will post info of the launch on here when i have more info!

I have tried a few toddler groups in Stannington. There is one at the community centre off Wood Lane (go down the path at the side of the childrens centre to get there) on a Thursday morning at about 9.30. There is also one at Stanwood Church on Stannington Road on Wednesday afternoons. Shooters Grove School also have a toddler group on the 1st Friday of the month 9.30ish in the Nursery, which is good as there are a number of toddlers that go there who will be in the same year as your son when they start school (if he's in that catchment area).

I know it's not woodhouse, but I'm in Handsworth and get the bus to town and go to Jellytot's. One of the best things about it are it's on 3 times a week mon, wed and fri 1pm till 3pm. It's on Chapel Walk opposite Superdrug through the glass doors of the Victoria Methodist Church (lower ground floor)

Everyone is lovely and you'd be made very welcome as would your little one.

Just get the tram to Cathedral, it takes about 20 mins. It's open Mon Wed Fri 1-3pm. If not send me a pm or post again and I'll try to find others but I recommend this one!
