I have finished using my HI8 camcorder as I bought a DVD camcorder yesterday. Trouble is, I've got lovely memories on my HI8 tapes and I would love to transfer them to my camcorder dvd's disks. How do I do that?
Many thanks!!!!

Hi,
Im dont actually know how to do this with Hi8 but if you go to a place on Ecclesall Road called Hewitts (sony shop near Porter Brook pub) they will probably be able to help you out. They are really helpful!
Hope that helps.

i hear that argos do a lead kit that lets you record from standard camcorder to dvd through your pc. £75 quid tho is a bit pricey

If it's the Belkin Videobus, it's rubbish.

The best hardware converter I have found (and used) so far is the Plextor ConvertX.

get a decent capture card for your pc and a dvd burner. Capture the analogue signal, edit it, encode it, burn it.

Check and see if your new camera allows connection of an AV signal from an outside source. Most modern cameras allow you to use them as a bridge between the AV source and the pc. All you will need is a lead. The camera will convert the signal to digital and send it down the firewire cable to your pc. Or you could record the signal onto the small dvd in camera.

The quality of their (or "its" if you wish) English is poor with the following...

- there are an abundance
- out of peoples technical
- a large amount of video companies

...appearing in the first two paragraphs on this (http://www.video-to-dvd.co.uk/transfer/shopping_around_compare_conversion.html) page.

So, beware any labellng or titling aspect of their (or its) service.

Well spotted harry and so eloquently put. I emailed them about their grammar but feel guilty as I'm afraid I took all the credit though, sorry, hence my post here LOL.

They've now replied with an embarrased 'it was only grammatical' and I certainly won't find any spelling mistakes on their website!

I've just sent them an email back saying "if i do find more - will they give me a free video transfer"

Well you got to ask! Do I risk falling asleep on night shift or rise the challenge?

Buy one of these, put camcorder to the front and press record on the HDD/DVD ....simple and use it afterward for TV
