Is it ever worth while getting a DVD rewriter drive repaired as they are now so dirt cheap to buy? Got a stack of NEC 1500 rewriters all the same age which are all systematically failing after 2 years continual use on a duplicator.......are they just disposable?

Does the laser optical system fail or is it the mechanics of the unit that has a finite life.....the ones of mine that failed just show motor problems, they refuse to spin up and just clunk........or make odd high piched whining noises and just chuck out the disks..then clunk and refuse to do anything more....

Repairing will be more expensive than replacing imo, I can't even think of anyone that offers a repair service

plus I'd say 2 years solid use on a duplicator was damn good going

2 years of continuous use - that's good! They are far cheaper to replace than repair - the throw away society and I wonder why we have problems with the amount of trash we produce :(
