GabyS 08-08-2006, 04:00 PM My fiance and I are moving to sheffield soon and we've found a great place to rent in shiregreen. Only think is I don't know what shiregreen's like. I searched for it on the forums and didn't find much other than a post about a stabbing there, which has me worried. Is the area ok or should we avoid it?
Jillybabes 09-08-2006, 05:40 PM Its not bad, we have lived here since February and had no problems, there is the usual teenage gangs and stuff like you get anywhere but where we live on Sicey Avenue its fine, we live near Nethershire Lane and its not a bad location really, close to the shops, nowhere to park at the moment except on the road but depending on where you are wanting to rent then Santuary Housing are doing all the houses up over the next 4 years, putting in new kitchens, bathrooms, even doing driveways with gates and railings. I never heard anything about a stabbing on the news or anything, that can happen anywhere though.
MTheo 09-08-2006, 05:53 PM when i look in the property guide the most places and cheapest are usually shiregreen... that makes me read into it that it is undesirable... however ive not really been there or know anyone who has lived there.. so i dunno.. theres yobbo's in any part of sheffield haha
*binty* 09-08-2006, 05:55 PM Shiregreens not bad, i've lived here all my life apart from moving from one end to the other! Just depends where abouts in Shiregreen, what road have you been looking at? x
Anj1364 09-08-2006, 05:56 PM I lived at the bottom end of Shiregreen (Sicey Avenue) for 6 years and didn't have any problems. There were no gangs of kids hanging round and it was quiet at night.
neeeeeeeeeek 09-08-2006, 05:59 PM Have to agree, it's not the most sort after area but is mostly OK. As everyone else has said, some bits are a bit dodgy, it depends on what your used to. It's a large council style estate, a bit out of the centre. If your used to living in a quiet residential area your better off the other side of town. If your used to large council estate type areas than you should find it's OK. You can always move!
GabyS 09-08-2006, 07:06 PM I think its Renathorpe Rd of Shirehall Rd and Ronskley Crescent. I only got told the post code though, so I'm just guessing by where google maps shoved the big green arrow ^_^'
I'm used to living in the middle of the countryside, so its gonna be different wherever in the city we move to. Well, Dave lives in a small town, but its quiet where he lives. I think it would take a pretty bad reputation to put us off the area as we've been offered a great price for renting. Even includes tv licence, i think. Boy I'm too young to be doing all this ^_^' Only 18 and I'm getting married in 10 days.
Anyhoo, thanks for your opinions guys.
Anyone else heard good things / bad things?

I live a couple of roads away from Shirehall and and i dont think its that bad but other people may have different views if they actually live on that road! xx
budlight 09-08-2006, 09:19 PM theres alot nicer places depends how much your willing to pay in rent
GabyS 09-08-2006, 10:30 PM michelle: Yup ^_^' Hehe, I'm so excited :D
budlight: Well, this place is at the top end of our budget and is bigger than places for the same price in the city centre. I guess that could mean its a bad area... But I don't really want to be cramed into a tiny flat or studio ^_^' This place is a 1 bed end terrace. Just been refurbished too.
budlight 09-08-2006, 11:01 PM good luck to you hope you enjoy sheffield
Jillybabes 09-08-2006, 11:03 PM Good luck on your big day x Renathorpe Road is ok, I think its pretty quiet round there, you wont be far from shops either and bus stops. There are some dodgy areas around, lets hope you get some nice neighbours.

denise853b 25-08-2006, 12:21 AM I have lived all over sheffield and cannot wait to get out of shiregreen, the people just do not care about the area it full of litter, yobs, joy riders heaven, there is a culture of unemployment yops hang round the shops getting drunk and its shocking going shopping at night, the police never turn up if theres a problem but the fire brigade are very good at coming to put the burning cars out.

It is mainly to do with political correctness, and a lack of discipline,Shiregreen will always be working class , many good families came from there and no doubt still do,but with the demise of any punishment in Society ,this as with many council areas, will battle to control unacceptable behaviour, in the old days people had some respect for police, they would not be sued ,and all the rest of the crap that goes on, bring back law & order.
