The mountain zoo is small but quite pleasant.

Personally I'd recommend going to Llandudno instead, staying at the Great Orme end of town. It's a much nicer town with a reasonable town centre and a few decent pubs (particularly the Kings Head). Colwyn Bay's town centre is a bit depressing and the pubs are crap.

For stuff to do, there's the Great Orme in Llandudno which is basically a 1.5 x 0.5 mile enormous rock at the end of town with a tram and cable cars up it. There's the Conwy Castle. You can get a train or drive down the cowny valley then along to Mt Snowdon (Llanberis). Also handy for the Menai Strait and Angelssey.

And Bronze Age copper mine in it. Not sure how open or accessible it is.

Holyhead isn't far away, and you can catch the ferry over to Dublin for the day, it's around £19 but good for around 6 hours in Dub and cheap fags & booze etc there and back. Oh and the bestest ever Guiness in the world.

Yes the copper mines are open as a tourist attraction. They're quite good.

There's also a few things in Rhyl - a good aquarium called Sea World, the Sun Centre (swimming pool with wave machine) and a rollercoaster that looks like a death trap. I wouldn't stay in Rhyl tho' - it's populated with heroin addicts and freaks.

Also a dry ski slope on the Great Orme, although coming from Sheffield it's probably not very high on your list of things to do..

Dont stay in Colwyn Bay. I lived near there till recently and its pretty scummy. Stay somewhere nice, anywhere else would be nicer (other than rhyl) ie llandudno, conwy, bangor anglesey. Its a bit of a trek, but abersoch is where I would recomend. Nothing but wildlife and hills for miles around but abersoch itself is a small, groovy surfing town (st Ives of Wales)

Try and go to Porthmeiron where the Prisoner was filmed its weird in a nice way! Think there is a hotel there too. Rhyl just full of p.ss.d up scousers

we went years ago when i was about 13/14, must be about 22 years now. All I can remember is the beach being full of jellyfish, not the odd one, you had to mind where you walked.
