Silly question, but does it have to be a Sheffield shop? Mine is Borders, though I don't think there's a branch in Sheffield.

I love the atmosphere, the wide selection of books and magazines, and the ability to sit down with a latte once you've done your shopping.

I like Lush as there is always something new, the smell is lovely, the assistants are nice, it makes you feel like you are treating yourself but it's only a few pounds and its against animal testing.

I also like The Body shop for all the above reasons and for its Community trade policy as well!

Fopp, without a shadow of a doubt.

Funk, pop, disco, house, soul, indie, rock blues, jazz.. all cheap all good!

top shop for their jeans and skirts
new look for their shoes
quiz and west one for their dresses and tops
Next for kids clothes
Asda for food
Argos for anything and everything

do you just mean physical shops or websites/brands also? for instance i like abercrombie for their skirts and leg avenue for their fancy dress outfits but both cannot be bought directly and have to be purchased through online 3rd party retailers - such as pinktarget.com for the leg avenue stuff (although that site has recently been taken down)

W. H. Smith. I love the book stands.
Plus, there was a little book shop down Chapel Walk. I used to love it there too.

In Sheffo, my vote goes to Forever Changes Record Shop in Hunters Bar....
one of the few proper record outlets in the city left....top range of vinyl, nice location, friendly, helpful staff and reasonably priced...was happy for them to relieve me of 30 nicker sat afternoon! :)

in response to other peoples posts...think 'Borders' would be a great addition to the city, their range of books and (music) magazines is top drawer. Used to love Fopp and think its great for cheap cds/books/dvds but gutted they don't sell records no more.....ah the days of wandering upstairs for a bit of banter and a few tunes!

Pops Supermarket:
here: (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=925596#post925596)
...in my opinion there's only one supermarket in Sheffield worth going to: Pop's on Nether Edge corner. You may not be able to get red pepper humous and the latest DVD, but you can buy 29p noodles and Spiderman on VHS for £1.99.Props, too, to Spin City, for Andy and Pauline's encyclopaedic knowledge of proper music. Lowlife used to be my favourite shop when it was on Hickmott, but you don't get as good a view of girls' asses out of the window upstairs at The Harley.

I went into Prego the other day and was very impressed with their wares. Good stuff.

Does Elif count as a shop?

I like the post apocalyptic vibe of the shops down London Rd. end of Abbeydale Rd., like JF Mawson, or the equally bizarre John Carr & Co. Electrical. I think my fascination with these is somewhat morbid, though - pondering, as I do, the mental health of their owners.

Elevator was my favourite clothes shop ever!

yer man on London Road that runs that place next to Steers is definately kitted out for the next civil war/nuculear fall out/return of the students....that place reminds me of the nazi in that film 'Falling Down' when he takes Michael Douglas into the back of the shop and there's a whole arsenal back there!

For clothes I generally like TK Max - lots of different brands under one roof - I have trouble finding clothes that fit and usually end up doing a 5 mile hike of the city centre - TK's saves my poor feet.

I used to like The Lanes in the hell esp Funky Monkey, but I haven't been there in a while as find if more and more difficult to get the motivation and patience for a trip to the hell!

When the forum first opened many moons ago - I loved that place - there were some really funky things to be had - stopped visiting when it went lable crazy so to speak.

Food shopping, Tesco is cheapest but Sainsburys generally have exactly what you want!

Creamy candy is mmmmm divine! :D I find the shower gel to be more economical though, as the candy bar only does like 2 baths, or one very extravagant one... whereas the shower gel does loaaaaads of shower/baths :D

It has to be Ken Spelman, Micklegate, York. The most evocative bookshop ever, creaky floorboards, slightly musty smell, great books at decent prices, old prints of Yorkshire. I visited that shop as a toddler and fell in love with it, the atmosphere in the place is unique. Then again, perhaps its just me.

You do know Argos is full of chavs right? All buying their bling bling from the Elizabeth Duke counter.

And no, I do not before anyone starts.

Try the bookshop on that road that runs along the top of Devonshire Green (don't know what it's called) that shop has a similar atmosphere.

Did you know that the Lush shop has a kind of contraption at the back of the counter which is constantly throwing out that smell: they must feed it with bath bombs:D That is why they always have the doors open so that everyone in fargate can whiff it

My favourite shop in Sheffield is Barney Goodman on Ecclesall Road, classic tailors who have been making my suits since I could avoid buying off the rail.

Fantastic service, quality clothing at extremely reasonable prices. Definitely reckon it is worth a visit for any chap aspiring to be well dressed.

Most of my other favourites tend to involve grub;

Roses Bakers
Silverhill Cheese Shop
Boldocks Fishmongers
Roneys

and finally surprised no one so far has mentioned Record Collector at Broomhill.A fantastic range of stock run by people who care about music.

I'd second the comment on Spin City on Westfield Terrace...best record shop in Sheffield by a country mile....you want it they've got it....or they'll track it down for you.

Fopp has sold its soul to the devil now its ditched the vinyl and replaced it with millions of dvd's.
