Hiya

Looking for some advice. It's my husband's 30th birthday in a few weeks time and the in laws are coming! To save me cooking we are planning going out for a meal. We are looking for a country-ish place (not town centre, easy to get to by car), north Sheffield / Barnsley sort of area. We live in Chapeltown and would be going out on a Saturday. Something like a carvery would be perfect but not having any luck with ye ol' google.

Anyone got any recommendations? Budget would be about £25 per head. Have found some really exquisite / fine dining sort of places, but that's not really what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance :)

Wentworth has a good reputation - both its pubs (George & Dragon, Rockingham Arms) do food, but I'm not sure about Saturday nights. There's also a bistro in the village but I've not been there.

Here are just a few nice eating places off the top of my head, Tankersley Manor, Staindrop Lodge, Escape, and Wentworth

It's not really suitable for a 30th birthday party, but the Miners Arms on Warren Lane, Chapeltown is lovely for food now.

It's been taken over by new management, and spruced up inside, and it's really nice.

They serve at lunchtime and early evening (5pm-8pm I think).

The food is fairly simple, but very well done and reasonably priced. I had a ham salad, with home roast ham, and buttered new potatoes, cost about £5.50. A hot roast beef sandwich with chips is about £4.50.

My cousin raved over his pensioner's special lunch - 3 courses for £4, Monday to Friday.

Definitely worth a visit!

Don't know what time they finish serving on an evening but the food at Meadow Farm - what used to be Shardlow's on Nether Lane, Ecclesfield - is good.

We have been for carvery on sunday lunch a few times.
