EPOS works better over dial up (or ISDN) than xDSL connections as they dial in to the bank direct than via a ISP.
Most business in Meadowhall I would expect to use ISDN so they can have one public number but have switchboard options.

Large names like Argos / WHSmiths / etc...
Will have there own satellie or leased line in place this no need for xDSL.
Thats why it has not been done as yet....

/me needs to get out more!!

Yeah I knew it was currently via ISDN, but come 2006 its gonna have to change when the phone network doesnt allow 'analogue' signals anymore.

All the phones will be changed to VoIP. Eventually its gonna have to change as BT insist that "mid-band" as they now call it isnt as good as their Business Broadband Packages.

VoIP will not take off for a while yet as most business (SoHo - med) see it as only something large business would use, and the cost savings in call cost are not evident as yet.

Once the cost of VoIP - PSTN interconnect comes down then VoIP will move the the masses. The Greater London area only has 12% take up of xDSL (excluding cable modem) that is not a nice figue to see. BT want to move IP based systems for cost effectiveness but they can not do so as the customers have not even switched to broadband access as yet.

Meadowhall will definitely have broadband, either through Cable, a BT Exchange or Satellite or a combination of them. I think one of the reasons for having this new exchange is because I know that most of Tinsley is not connected. The reason for this, is that the cable from the exchange (Not sure which exchange this is, Attercliffe I think), takes a lengthy route meaning that when it reaches Tinsley the cable has travelled such a distance that the signal is too weak.

Sorry but yur wrong with some points there.
Meadowhall has its own phone network in the tunnels under the building (how you think the shops get deliverys?) the exchange switch for Meadowhall is under the Oasis IIRC.
That exchange serves Meadowhall shopping center only.

No doubt Meadowhall does have existing broadband acces but will be private to the business say a satellie connection for Lunn Poly or such. Telewest cable does not cover Meadowhall at all. (they may provide leased lines thow)

Tinsley is served by the Attercliffe exchange the line length is quite far and the signal is lossy but BT in the near future will raise the distance and line loss levels to allow people in Tinsley broadband access.

Ahhh, that is for BT to change their core network from circuit switched to IP based. (some is IP based now but this is when all of it will change over)
Cost saving for them, etc... :D

Yeah, £1billion per annum!

I think the ones currently changed over are:

London (most areas), Milton Keynes and some obscure one like Norwich or something

Thats the deep fibre trial, Albert Dock (London), Bradwell Abbey (Milton Keynes) and Kesgrave (Ipswich)
That is a full fibre lay to the users home / business.
