View Full Version : Hello, I'm new here.
Hi,
I found you all thanks to Carrie after I posted on the Freecycle page. I've been knitting and crocheting for years but I've had to cut back on quantity due to a problem with my hands. I tend to do baby things for charity mainly now.
I don't suppose anyone has a copy of the July 17th issue of Simply Knitting that they don't want? I know its a long shot cos we all tend to keep our mags don't we? I'm after the pattern for the rabbit. I got this months issue for the first time as they started selling it locally. It had all the rabbit clothes but the pattern for the bunny was in the last issue. My son's girlfriend does bunny rescue and he is pestering for some surfing rabbits for her!!
Nice to meet you all. I'm enjoying browsing through old threads and looking forward to getting to know you all.
Sue
carriewarr 06-08-2006, 07:32 Hi Sue. Welcome to the group!
You'd think that they'd have reproduced the 'basic bunny' pattern in the second installment, wouldn't you? If you have no joy here, it may be worth writing to Simply Knitting and asking them to reproduce it - or send you a copy of that pattern.
Cheers, Carrie
Hi Sue, and welcome to the Knitting Group, and to the Sheffield Forum  .
I'm a great fan of making baby things too; they knit up so quickly and the patterns are really sweet. I've been browsing through the range of Rowan and RYC patterns for young children recently (Miss Bea, the 'Classic' collection, Little Treasures etc) and, of course, the Debbie Bliss ones. The patterns are beautiful. It's almost enough to make me want to start to reproduce... but not quite :hihi: .
I'm not sure I have that issue of Simply Knitting. I've just had a quick look in my magazine boxes and it isn't there. That doesn't necessarily mean I don't have it, given the apalling state of my house at the minute. I'll have a tidy around this afternoon and see if I can unearth it. If so, you're more than welcome to borrow it for as long as you need. I would like it back though, as I tend to be a bit of a magazine hoarder!
I love your avatar, by the way. Are the moggies yours? They look a little like my two, Merlin (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/ppn_2204/MerlinYarn.jpg) and Jesse (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/ppn_2204/jesse2.jpg).
Feel free to jump in with new topics, post photos (you can post links when you have made 15 posts), make suggestions of web sites for any of the 'recommended links' sections; anything really!
Happy knitting :) .
Liz/Hecate.

I forgot to mention that if you'd like to do a bit more knitting baby things for charity, there's a 'sticky' thread at the top of the main page about the Save the Children appeal for children's hats. Here's a direct link (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=129291) to it.
Jabberwocky 06-08-2006, 08:27 Hello and welcome to the group and the forum.

Sharp, pointy sticks, Jabbers, in soft and tender areas... Keep it in mind  .
Don't mind Jabbers, Sue. He's a sweetie really, though just the tiniest bit deranged ;) .
Hi Carrie
At a pinch I could send for a back issue but it would cost another £2 on top of the normal magazine price and they aren't cheap to start with are they? I keep saying I will have to cut back on the mags cos I never want to throw any away and I have a load of cross stitch stuff as well as the knitting and crochet ones. I do a bit of tatting too but a lot of my newer patterns for that are off the internet so they are just in a big file.:))
Sue
Hi Hecate
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, the kitties are mine. Smudge and Boris (Bozza to his mates!) They do look uncommonly like your two don't they? they do make knitting a challange!! Boz picks up small objects so things like cable needles and tatting shuttles are always missing.:)) I call him my witchy cat as he loves my crystals too and likes to select one to take to bed with him!
I tend to stick with kniiting baby things because they don't hang so heavily on the needles. When my hands are good I do bigger stuff or fancier patterns. On bad days I just do a simple garter stitch blanket pattern that you can add a tiny hood to for the premmie charities. I have seen the Save the Children Link so maybe I can split my time between the two. I started with the premmie stuff after a friends daughter had her twins at 26wks.
Looking forward to being part of the group. It has a good feel to it.:))

Im not allowed to go into any detail about my...ahem... little piccadillo on pain of death.
She who must be obeyed can be a monster where knitting needles are concerned.
Don't feel sorry for Jabberwocky, he deserves everything Hecate gives to him!
beansforyou 06-08-2006, 17:41 Hi Sue,
I believe i've got July's copy of simply knitting - i'll hunt it down just to make sure :) Your welcome to borrow it but i'm a hoarder too so i'd like it back one day (no rush though :) )
That would be excellent!! If you find it I can send you a SAE and then I'll copy out the instructions and post it straight back.
Sue
I'm glad you've got one, beansfor you, because if I have that issue I certainly can't find it. I'll probably spot it under the settee or something in a few weeks (when I get around to hoovering the bits of the carpet other than those you can see :hihi:) .
I wouldn't worry about hooving those bits. It takes up valuable knitting time. Anyway, people shouldn't be looking down there!!

True. I only contemplate it whenever I've lost something and have to pull all the furniture out in a frantic search to find it. When I see what looks like an inch thick layer of cat fur, plus all the stuff that the mogs have batted underneath, it generally shames me into getting the hoover out and into all the nooks and crannies :hihi: .
beansforyou 06-08-2006, 22:46 unfortunately my settee is raised about 3 inch off the floor with the big feet its got, so I can't get away with leaving it too long
I also have a dog who always bats his toys under there.
I've sorted the mag out for sue anyhow, i'll be sending it in a day or two :)
