Meadowhall or Town?

do you think meadowhall has ruined the city center or possibly jump started it into changing for the better?

I love Meadowhall, its so convenient! It gets packed at the weekends, which stresses me, but its a good place to go, I love doing my shopping there!

My only request is that they get a "Lush"!

Meadowhall didn't ruin the city centre - the city centre runied its self, all be it with a little help from Meadowhall.

I prefer the city centre, but often go to Meadowhall simply because I can park for free there.

Although Meadowhall is great in theory, I actually prefer the city centre as I hate the atmosphere in Meadowhall. It always seems so hot, as though the air conditioning isn't on properly, and theres always way too many people there, especially on Saturdays. In town, although you get surrounded by pigeons, market scrubbers, clipboard brandishers, etc etc, at least you get to breathe in some fresh air and not sweat like a pig.

PS. For the record, its city centRE, not centER. We live in England, not the USA.

Definitely meadowhall. Its my second home! Call me sad but i usually go 3 times a week, sometimes more.
I was getting withdrawal symptoms from not going cos of my a-levels but i went today so im ok now.
- Its very convenient and has nice cafes and better shops than Sheffield centre with benches everywhere to sit and nice plants.
- It gets decorated nicely at christmas and you can use your meadowhall card to get discounts off things.
Parking is free and you can always find a space (well i can anyway)
- If you go on a weekday morning its virtually empty.
- You can shop without being told 'Jesus is alive' by weirdos or being asked 'what mens deoderant do you buy' by market researchers.

I wouldnt recommend to anyone to go on a weekend. Not only do you get the little kiddy groups of annoying teens messing around, but its packed full of all kinds of lifeforms and the atmosphere isnt anywhere near as good, even I find myself wanting to go home after 2 hours (which is very unusual for me)

Being that I don't really know Sheffield City centre without personal tour guide, I don't shop there.
I refuse to pay the hiked prices on a lot of things in Meadowhall.

Generall most of my shopping in done in Hillsborough. I don't drive so it is convenient and cheaper in most cases.

I too prefer to shop locally in Hillsborough, Crookes or Walkley. Have you noticed that the floor surface at M'hell has been designed so that you can't walk at more than a slow pace?

if you notice meadowhall's floor goes: /\/\/\/\ (not as extreme ;))

this is because walking up or down gradients is better for you feet than a flat surface, so now you know ;) you'll sleep tonight knowing that :D

I much prefer The Moor over Meadowhall.
Similar reasons to t020, and on top of that, it's easier to get to The Moor from here than it is Meadowhall. The Moor is a short-ish bus journey away, Meadowhall is a similar journey, but I also have to catch a Meadowhall tram (usually at Castle Square).

Except in steel tipped stilettoes

Pass me a claim form :D

So far we've done Eccy Rd and the Ridgeway Craft Centre. Orchard Square may get a visit, and although I really don't want to, I just know we'll wind up getting the last few bits in Meadowhell :(

I doubt t020 shops on the Moor v often mate, he complained about 'market scrubbers'. Anyway what's on the Moor that anyone would want to go to...ever...apart from the Chinese Supermarket, and Debenhams?

I prefer the city centre, but often go to Meadowhall simply because I can park for free there. Same here, I just cannot aford or be bother to look for a parking space in an area where clearly, me as a driver is not welcome. So I brave the wrath of the pushchairs, grannies and eradic moving customers at Meadowhell.

I very much prefer city centre over Meadowhell, for the choice and feel of beeing 'somewhere' rather than in a green house, but parking ... I'm not leaving my car in Park Hill just to get a space for free !

I prefer shopping in the centre, in Hillsborough, Ecclesall Rd, Walkley etc, anything other than Meadowhall. I used to shop there often before I moved to Sheffield but have only been once in the last 6 months. I prefer to be out of doors between shops, and find Meadowhall a really tiring place to be - and they don't have John Lewis.

If I had to use my car for any reason, I would go to Meadowhall, but I moved here partly because of the tram route - straight into town!

Meadowhall has a far better range of shops, and they are also bigger shops, so for 'serious' shopping in Sheffield it has to be there I'm afraid. But the major drawback is that you have to go at opening time as it's far too busy at any other time.

Town on the other hand is easily accessible by bus, so you don't have the stress of parking, and you can at least relax, sit down and have a smoke without the thought police coming to arrest you for daring to cease shopping for all of five minutes, and most importantly, you don't come home sweating like a pig because Meadowhall is far too hot.

Fargate has gone right downhill for shops - it's just mobiles and more mobiles seemingly, and when they have street traders with music blaring out it's unbearable. The Moor is OK, lots of good bargains to be had and Atkinsons is great. Division St is also OK away from weekends. The market area is like something beamed straight out of the Eastern Bloc - though the flea market is interesting.

Personally, I'd prefer not to shop in either and take my money to York instead.

Had to vote Meadowhall, not because like the place but because the shops I want are there, the shops in town are crap, and Meadowhall has free parking (not that I drive, but it's handy if you do)

Once town gets some decent shops that don't just sell cheap tat I'll go back to shopping there.

Actually, can I vote for Leeds or Manchester town centre instead ?

Given the choices in this poll I would have to say Meadowhall. However, given the choice I would prefer to shop in Manchester city centre [Harvey Nich's, Kendals, Selfridges...]

We might as well be the 51st US State though given how far up the US Government's collective arses our Mr Blair and chums are...
