I have 2 labs who have never been to a show class before. They havent been to training classes either! oops! I wanted to take them and to participate just for the laugh! Is that possible or do they take them very seriously?!

Thank you

It's a companion dog show - which is a bit less serious Danielle. They usually have non-pedigree classes, like 'waggiest tail' and 'best six legs', which might be a good way to introduce them to the show ring without being able to present them for show.

You'll get the opportunity to see how the pedigree classes work, and if you're still interested, I can recommend a class at Wath, where they are a little less 'intense' about their show training, and a very friendly lot ;)

What are the novelty classes Bobtail?

Many of the entrants for the 'best six legs' last time may have chosen a different outfit if they'd know that was a class ;)

KATIEB_23
11-08-2006, 12:56
I think she means a signature with a link in, eg. like I've got & strix has.
Then wherever you post you'll be advertising it & people can link straight back to your thread.
Its easy - just copy & paste the link into your signature.

I'll hopefully be there bobtail! Takara and Eddy enjoyed the last one and Eddy's getting a bit better now with other dogs bless him!

Hopefully see you there!

Danielle, it's a LOT more laid back at a companion show, and if you do want to go to a ringcraft class, there's a nice club at Beighton where you can do as much or as little as you like and the trainers are very helpful. PM me if you want info!

Hi, I want to get there but dont know any taxis that would take dogs, especially as it might rain and buses are rubbish on sundays especially with 2 labradors smelling like wet dog but bus drivers off.

Anyone any ideas? I live near sheffield wednesday football ground if anyone know any taxis or has any ideas?

I can go!!!!

Pink Fairy - it's nothing daunting you all stand in the ring together and it depends what novelty group you enter as to whether you move around the ring I think!

It's good fun! Come along and give it a go!

Ring your usual taxi service, and tell them you are transporting dogs, and they will try to find a driver who doesn't mind taking them. If you can also tell them you have a car seat cover, or a boot cover (if you ask for an estate), you may be in with a better chance ;)

Brude has been in taxis before, but he's small, and we weren't going very far, but one bloke who was planning to refuse to take us changed his mind when we produced a seat cover (clean dog blanket)

Edit: after the week I've just had, I'm afraid we're wussing on this one, in favour of a peaceful beach walk with Mr Strix's mum :)

We've got our fancy dress oufit for the next one though Bobtail ;) (and you are going to laugh when you see it :hihi: )

Did anyone else go to this toady? I did, my choc lab came third in waggiest tail and 4th in dog judge would like to take home.

She never picked a golden lab for anything, she didnt even look at them properly! If she didnt like them then fair enough but she could at least have given them the time off day!

and for prettiest bitch she picked an ugly butch looking dog, not in anyones eyes was it pretty!

Everyone was saying she wasnt very good in the novelty judging!

I'll second that :) How that could be classed as pretty was anybodys guess

Buster got 2nd for "best six legs" and 3rd for "Pedigree terrier".
We have a Springer (the one who weed in the ring). She's only a baby and we didn't expect her to win but it would have been nice if the judge had at least looked at her. The man with the red box had us in stitches, we saw him putting mascara on the dogs before the show.
In total agreement with the prettiest bitch winner, not at all attractive and pretty overweight if you ask me.
The Judge definately had a thing for terriers.
Still, we all had great fun, Buster had a go on the agility course and loved it.
Your chocolate Lab was gorgeous Danielle.

I could never take it as seriously as some of them though.
My dogs are for having fun and companionship.

Mine was a white collie, she got 4th in Best Crossbreed. Mr Tess couldn't believe the chap with the dog with the red box, kept saying it wasn't a dog, just a status symbol!!

I wholeheartedly agree with that!! Dog owning should be fun. Tess also had a go on the agility, refused point blank to do the weaves and barked the whole way round!!!!

I was there! With the mad dalmatian that didn't run very well in AV Utility (she was too busy sniffing the grass).

There were two dalmatians, I was the one with the smaller female dally on the show lead. The other lady had only come for a walk and thought she'd join in!
The other dally was 8 months old and towered over Takara! He was fab!

I'm afraid we didn't manage to stay for the novelty classes as my leg was hurting and Takara was getting fidgety!

We didn't get placed in any classes but I did notice the judge had a 'thing' for fluffy/long haired dogs, she didn't even look at Takara in our second class.
I also didn't really think some of the winners moved as well as the judge seemed to think although some were very good! But hey - I'm not the judge!

We enjoyed our show practice anyway and it was great to meet PinkFairy and Tess667 and to see BobtailBabe again.

The man with the red box had 2 yorkies but a case with over 10 brushes in it.
He could have groomed a shire horse with that equipment.:loopy:
I fell in love with the pugs, they were so cute, so well behaved too.
My daughter wanted to take the dalmatians home so your lucky you got to keep yours Lotti. She was very close to being smuggled out in a blanket.;)

erm, I hope none of the people who have been the targets of the cattiest comments on here are forumers too

If anybody has said anything they would rather not have said to somebody's face, I suggest some editing may be in order ;)

I had forgotten about the agility bit - Brude had a go at the last show we went to, and seemed quite confident with the obstacles - in between 'hunting' so I was looking forward to giving him another go.

I have to say, I have enough reservations about dressing dogs up, without going so far as applying make up to them too :suspect: and it is unfair not to give each dog judging attention when it's a companion show, and many people there are likely to be 'out' for the first time

Me and scooby went on saturday had a good day met godzila, bobtail , lotti and guenie pigs owners. :)

Judge seem to have her favs and over looked a lot of dogs. I will agree with lotti she did seem to like fluffy dogs to.

I dint relise the man with yorkies and red box put mascra on his dog i sorry but i complty disagree with this if he on forum i will say to hime that it complty wrong dogs should not wear make up it can irrate a humans eye so what could it do to dogs. Also a dog cant turn round and says it hurt. Sorry but it something i feel strongly about

On a lighter it was good to meet everyone and there dogs

Yes, that was me. The golden coloured greyhound (Ray) is the brother of the white one (Sarah) and they both live at home with lurcher Sol at chez Godzilla. The 'friend' who is wanting a good home is one of 20 retired greyhounds we currently have in kennels awaiting adoption. At the moment, we have a high percentage of black dogs, and we have found that people are not as readily attracted to them. I wish that more people would give black greyhounds a chance, they are just as laid back and loveable.
