View Full Version : If you were about to be stranded... *Twinkle* 14-06-2003, 19:28 on a desert island and you could only take 5 things with you, what would those 5 things be? I'll post my list later when I've had a think! RPG 14-06-2003, 19:31 well, it'd have to be: (not in any order) 1. someone who loves me 2. a laptop with wireless internet connection ;) 3. an ipod crammed full of my fave music 4. a good book (possibly 1984 by george orwell, or a dilbert book) 5. photos and videos of the people i left behind Jon 14-06-2003, 19:35 sounds like a topic i would get told off for postings  1) Shaving Mirror...so if planes or UFOs fly past i can flash the mirror at the sun telling them "Oi i stuck down here" 2) a laptop so i can laugh at the posts about favourite buildings and wanting to move to Sheffield on this forum 3) A glass of lager that refills its self when its empty 4) A magic lamp so i can wish for whatever i want 5) Jorden so i can use her as a boat because she can never sink and i would ride her round the 7 seas :D *Twinkle* 14-06-2003, 19:36 Nice choices! Everyone will laugh when they see what I have on my list! So far I just have Clarins "Beauty Flash balm"... hehe! It's a great product, I tried it a while ago, it's expensive, but has many purposes :) RPG 14-06-2003, 19:37 the above post was sponcored by "Clarins" no jon, i wouldnt have told you off ;) good choices btw :) halevan 16-06-2003, 14:41 food, water, clothing, spare dentures, and above all my ladyfriend. Miss_60 17-06-2003, 12:20 1. Tony Blair 2. Gordon Brown cuz both of them arguing would keep me entertained 3. Jean Claud Van Damme and Jensen Button (to keep me company  ) 4. Posh Spice (so I could beat her up) 5. shed loads of weed  Phanerothyme 17-06-2003, 23:22 1.Solar Cells 2.Cannabis Seeds 3.Satellite Transceiver 4.Laptop 5.Fishing Outfit (i'm assuming we will have to live off the land (coconuts, kellogs cornflake trees etc) I will also have to memorise my credit card details. t020 17-06-2003, 23:45 Tut. Is EVERYONE a bloody druggy these days? Phanerothyme 17-06-2003, 23:54 FYI cannabis is far more useful than just drugs you know. clothes fuel nutritious oil rope paper nutritious seeds beer its the swiss army knife of plants it will grow to 20ft tall in a season only the female flowers contain active ingredients, especially if not pollinated. Female flowers are resinous just like hops (same family) so it is also possible to make nice beer from cannabis flowers too They set seed readily and adapt to local conditions within a few generations. the only thing they will not really provide you with is food, apart from seed, which is very rich in essential fatty acids. t020 17-06-2003, 23:56 Is that so? You learn something every day. I know what your main use for it would be though    Phanerothyme 18-06-2003, 00:00 Tell me what would be so bad about being stranded on a remote island and cultivating a plant in order to ingest the flowers for a benign and revealing alteration of consciousness? What moral absolute does this contravene? What offence against human dignity, what evil does it represent? t020 18-06-2003, 00:02 Relax, just a joke. PS. it would depend on what laws were in place on this island, as I'm sure it would be within a countrys borders. Phanerothyme 18-06-2003, 00:06 Alternatively I would choose A geodesic dome with climate control A nuclear powered Land Rover Defender A large tracking satellite transceiver A gigantic computer A domesday device Geoff 18-06-2003, 00:07 :( :( :( Please keep on topic - i.e. post your lists. (PS. Someone change the record  ) Jon 18-06-2003, 00:08 Geoffs banned from my island lol only joking  t020 18-06-2003, 00:11 ok. My list? Not sure really, but: 1) Laptop with infinite power supply. 2) A TV that can receive English television. 3) My bed. 4) Some food and drink. 5) My girlfriend  Phanerothyme 18-06-2003, 10:23 Originally posted by "geoffbowen" :( :( :( Please keep on topic - i.e. post your lists. (PS. Someone change the record  ) you're the one drifting off topic with 'stay on topic reminders', and now look what you've done - disrupted the thread again! This needs some parameters - I think Nuclear Powered Land Rovers and Laptops with an infinite power supply should be ruled out. Assume you will be able to find basic food and that you have basic tools Assume there is arable land available or a big forest. All your items should be able to fit in a steamer trunk. (to be fortuitously washed overboard with you) max 18-06-2003, 11:26 Machete (self sharpening, preferably) Complete set of Dickens' works (did some at school and keep meaning to come back and read the rest) Magnifying glass (useful for reading small print, see above, and lighting fires) Blanket (nice to suck the corner when lonely and also for keeping warm) The Observer Book of what's safe to eat on any desert island upon which you may find yourself (or similar publication) Foxxx 18-06-2003, 11:38 Ok, good parameters, so if we don't need to worry about basic food or tools and we don't have power etc then my list would be something like this (in no order) 1: A windup radio, but I don't know whether I would pick up a signal or not, but this would never need batteries. Do some of these have tape players on? 2: Cannabis seeds for all the reasons Phanerothyme gave. 3: Books, can't decide which ones though, I guess it depends what is at hand when the ship I'm on suddenly starts sinking. 4: a lantern (and lighter) of some discription, however I guess this would run out at some point, but it would be nice to see what I'm doing in the dark and be able to read at bedtime. I guess a small fire would do the job, so a lighter would be helpful instead of trying to rub two sticks together! 5: A journal and pen, so I can write a diary and songs etc. Shame I can't fit a guitar into that steamer trunk! |
