That is indeed one hell of a cat! Its the feline equivalent of ginger spice in a bright red jump suit bungee jumping from the top of blackpool tower in a force eight gale.

Im sorry to bring my sexual fantasies into this but thats what that cat put me in mind of.

She's beautiful, but she's tortie, so she probably has a temper, and being long haired, that means scars aplenty for her groomer!

That was my first impression too, although I wasn't sure if it was the same colour.

I know somebody with a very similar cat, but it's tongue sticks out permanently in quite a comical fashion!

What's 'tortie' Meds?

Tortie is the cat version of brindle- a mix of black, brown and ginger, which can be either brindle (traditional tortoiseshell) or patches of colour (also known as calico). There's also the same mix with a base of blue/grey (known rather unsurprisingly as blue tortie). Colour genes in cats are on the sex chromosomes, so we can tell what colour Dad was when we get a black and white queen who has tortie babies.

Almost all torties are female (because male torties tend to be infertile and have genetic problems) and due to the same chromosomal issues, all tortie and whites are female (apart from the one in 1000 which are born intersex, and appear male but are genetically female- you need 2 X chromosomes to be tortie and white- we had one in the Shelter a few years ago- he was the subject of lots of interest).

So it's a fairly safe thing to call all brindle tortie or calico cats 'she'.

Thanks Medusa! So how does this relate to this cat having a temper too?

It's just a general thing that we've noticed with all the furries at the Shelter. It just seems that if there's going to be one that's a bit flaky, or who's a bit fiery, they're tortie. Spose it's like the human redhead thing (except this one can be shown in scars usually!).
