REally needs to be city centre so we can carry it, as transport a problem! simondjuk 02-08-2006, 12:01 is it going for scrapping or would you prefer it to be reused? speenie 02-08-2006, 12:04 either! it doesn't work so if i can't recycle it then we'll just have to skip it! Zimily 02-08-2006, 18:20 I also have an broken monitor I need to get rid of so if anyone does know of anywhere??? chris_cross 02-08-2006, 22:00 I have a 20m long Lan cable, who wants it ? jetuk 03-08-2006, 10:22 got 3 monitors! think the most economical thing to do is spash them up and put them in the bin or burn them! (and put glass in bin!- wrapped up of course!) btw, dont take this post seriously!! mrmark 03-08-2006, 11:22 If you want to recycle any computer technology in Sheffield the place to go is Access Space opposite the Rutland Pub on Brown St just along from the Workstation and the Yorkshire Art Space. They will happily accept and reuse any working computer equipment. I'm not sure if they can use broken stuff though. find them on the web at lowtech.org rti@lowtech.org lalaland 03-08-2006, 12:53 Recently we got rid of about 10 / 15 computers and about 20 crt monitors at work. I took several home and built up systems for people that I know, but the rest was just thrown in to a skip which we hired. The worst thing is that it all worked perfectly but had been replaced with newer kit. Aparently we used to donate this kit to schools or pretty much anyone that wanted it as it was still very much usable and only a couple of years old, but due to the way everyone seems to enjoy suing for any chance they get we are no longer permitted to do this. It seems stupid that kit that could have been used in schools or even advertised as freebies on the Sheffield forum was instead scrapped, but that's exactly what happened. It's not my employers fault either, I don't blame them for not wanting legal issues through an act of kindness. I think the Sheffield tip have some recycling scheme for monitors. I was clearing out some garden waste the other week and saw a container load of them all chucked in there. |
