Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what tests you have to sit to hold a full bike license? I have a full driving license, but do you have to sit a seperate theory test?

Also, anyone recommend anywhere that do crash courses?

How many people on here have a motorbike then?

My b/f has a fireblade (http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f96/x_dibsy_x/d4bd4dbe.jpg). He's rode bikes since he was 18 and would never be without one.:thumbsup:

Theres quite a few of us on here with bikes :)

Bikes are great fun.
Best advice is do the tests and so on but buy a copy of roadcraft (bike version) and take good note of what it says.

64, yes I do wear a seatbelt in a car, but I don't think THAT should be a law either.

Hi Poppins,
it has been the law in the UK for around 30 years that helmets are compulsory. Before that there were too many brain injured bikers. Don't forget that we have lots of bendy roads and coming off and getting a severe brain injury is much easier than it would be in USA where you have many flat highways which go on for straight miles.

Before helmets were law there was several failed media campaigns showing bikers in wheelchairs with disabling brain injuries, it was a significant problem. And just made the families of bikers more worried, while many bikers saw it as being "chicken" to wear a helmet, and refused.

However you can still wear a much smaller open face helmet if you want to act "tuff/camp" on a harley. :thumbsup:

I am sure someone who is in their 50s or 60s will correct some of my details, as I am too young to know this stuff first hand.

In the Uk Poppins we are smothered by laws telling us what we can and can't do for our 'own safety', there are good and bad points to this of course.

There are also scare stories in almost every edition of MCN (motorcycle paper) about how the Gov't are going to ban bikes entirely by such and such a year,

It does get to me how much our personal freedom is shrinking under this term 'safety' and I also find it interesting how many more brain dead people are managing to reproduce under this system, eventually this whole country will be full of zombies who can't tie their own shoelaces without some Gov't official telling them if they have done it according to the new 7.20B revised law regarding shoelace safety.

If we are still allowed shoelaces by then :)



Just to add, incase my post looks like I don't condone the wearing of safety gear, I fully back doing anything thats going to keep you breathing that bit longer - I just don't need some suit in an office to tell me.

Yes I understand fully that it's for a persons own safety, same as a seat belt, I wear a seat belt for my OWN safety, but I don't think I should have to be TOLD to do it, same as a helmet law, we only injure ourselves by not wearing them, eye protection I can see, you would be endangering someone else, wouldn't you ? anyhow it's the insurance companys that force these laws onto us.


Oh, and it's nothig to do with where I'm from, it's just my own opinion.
