My daughter's HP laptop, which is about a year old, has suddenly developed a blue vertical line about a quarter way across the screen.
Any idea if this permanent and if so can it be cured?

you can try taking the screen out and reseating the cable in the back. Or gently press the back of the screen and see if it comes back. Other than that, you need a new screen.

Does it have Windows XP installed? If it does, does the line only go about two thirds of the way up the screen? I've had some HP PC's that leave the shadow effect from the Start menu, on screen, after the menu has closed. Try clicking on the start menu and closing it, to see if they line up. I've found that the line isn't there when you boot up but apears after you use the menu for the first time, then doesn't go away. The only way I managed to get rid of this is to update/reinstall the graphics driver.
Let me know what happens.
Chris.
try adjusting the angle of the screen, if there's a flicker it's probably a loose connection
also if it's still in warranty shout long and hard at HP and get them to fix it

The line is there from boot up .tapping the screen or alterinf the angle makes no difference so it looks as if the laptop is going back to HP.
thanks for the help.
