I can actually see some sense in these suggested changes to classification. My understanding was that Alcohol and Tobacco would not become class B in the illegal sense, but are ranked higher than other currently illegal drugs in terms of harm, physically, psychologically and socially.

I think this is a good way of looking at the risks of drug use, however, I am concerned about how much consideration was given to the risks associated with illegal drugs of variations in purity, stregnth and added cutting agents. Ecstasy itself may have low levels of harm associated with it, but a 'bad' batch may result in harm, and a weak batch may result in OD's as people take more and more to get the same hit...

For some illegal drugs it is the unregulated aspects rather than the drug itself which poses the greates risks, IMO.
