My pc won't switch on!!!

Turned my pc off on friday night.

Went to turn it on sat morning and nothing!!

Opened it up and hovered out LOADS of dust.

Thought PSU had gone so unplugged and checked connections of every power connection.

My motherboard has a green LED on it which was lit when power was connected, so the motherboard is getting power.

So thought it may be a faulty power switch, so tried touching the power switch prongs with a key to start it.

Nothing!

One thing i've noticed is, when connecting the big ATX connector, the case fans jump abit, the HD led lights and the floppy drive makes a noise at a certian point when plugging it in. but again once fully connected and snapped in, nothing!

I've brough in the PSU to work to check it's giving out power correctly, (but i havn't done it yet)

ANyone heard of a problem like this, and know how it was solved.

I'm kind of hoping it's the PSU, as there quite cheap to replace and i can do it myself.

If the PSU is fine, what should i try next?

It could be the processor....? That would explain the power still getting through, but the startup failing...

:gag:

Sounds expensive!!!

After reading another thread, they mention the heat affecting PSU's.

It does get hot in my pc room in this weather, but i guess after a hoover and a cool down it should at least start.

Thinking about it, surley the PSU fan would spin? or the case fans.

As i said the fans jump abit when i connect the atx 20 pin power cable.

So it looks like everything will work, but it just won't start.

frustrating as i'm sat at work and pc is t home

I kind've had the same thing happen with this PC, but everything died in succession, so I'm not sure what it is that caused it!

I would have thought the first thing to check would be the PSU

Strange... I had the same only a couple of months ago. A few of the capacitors on the main board had fried. Kept all the bits though:D.
