For a cheap but very nice Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet I recommend Jumbo - across from the Crucible in Sheffield city centre. Goos selection of veggie foods as well.

Cheap but great - Zegumas London rd very filling lots of it. If you like lamb and rice. not quite a date place but its informal nice staff.

Mid price La Mancha is nice.do the tapas, try the sardines, don't have the house red.

Mid price- the thai place at the town end of london road. Wonderful fish cakes and mains. great staff.

top of mid range- La scala abbydale road- perfect date sort of place- good italian. if you like fish the mediteranian on sharrowvale rd

Boat out- boyfriend will cough. Time at crosspool or try rafters

There's a noodle bar in west one, sorry forgot the name but that is reasonably priced and good portions. I bit like sitting in a canteen but if that doesn't bother you the food makes us for the decor.x

For grown up eating, I'd suggest Boho (Campo Lane) or Artisan (Crosspool). Both are top class. I'd also recommend Seasons (Abbeydale Road ), Marco@Milano (Archer Road) and the Blue Room Brasserie (Chesterfield Road).

If you really want the best of the best, you need to go a bit further out of town. I'm told The Old Vicarage (Ridgeway) is the best in the area but I wasn't impressed. Fischer's at Baslow Hall is consistently in the UK's top 20 restaurants.

But it really does depend what you want!

Rossi's Italian is always a good bet. Good food, good price and a nice atmosphere if you want a slightly intimate evening away from the crowds.

Shiraz on Abbeydale Road is lovely. Every time we've been the food has been gorgeous and the portions are huge. I would say it could be quite a romantic place too, if that's what you're after!

Seasons on Abbeydale Road is a fantastic little place for cosy, bistro dining. The food there is fantastic, unlike anything else in the city as the place is owned and run by 2 renowned, classically trained chefs; one of whom used to work at the Ritz in London. Fantastic value for money too!

They have a website with a sample menu at http://www.seasonsbistrosheffield.com (http://www.seasonsbistrosheffield.co.uk)

The Bahn Thai at the end of London Road is dead good

If you want a pub on the edge of Sheffield / Peak District with suprisingly good food then you can't go wrong at the The Peacock (Owler Bar).

Jumbo's is dreadful - if you want the full chav experience go there. If you want the adult experience there is also Mama's and Leonies in town, Thyme Cafe in Broomhill and the one's listed by hounsfield jnr, though I can't vouch for the Blue Room brasserie

Hmmmm yeah Baan Thai is a great place to eat on London Road. There is a little Italian Place further up on London Road on the Right hand side, easy to miss, very tasty, small restaurant and cosy for a date. If I remember it is quite reasonably priced.

Wasabisabi (on London Road) is very good for something a bit different, the restaurant is nice and the food is very good.

Froggies Bistro (also on London Road) is very small and intimate with good food.

Rossi's (Abbeydale Road) is very good but quite expensive (esp. the wine)

There is an Italian on Walkley, neer the Freedom House whos name I can't remember, but the food there is amazing.

if you were going to go to a chinese buffet I'd say no1 is definately the best,

if you like sushi then wasabisabi is nice,
the bohemian on chesterfield roadis great for a light and cheap vegetarian meal,

the italian next doors food used to be great but i'm not sure anymore as they've just got a different manager, hopefully they haven't changed the chefs but I don't know,

the big noodle place on london road is nice too and i dont really know about anywhere else

Wig and Pen, Campo lane. Great place. Great food. Also 483 on Ecclesall Road. Plus many of others mentioned above. But not Jumbo, unless you like seeing people trough plates piled high with gloopy chinese food. My most unpleasant eating experience for a while.

The Bohemian on Chesterfield Road rocks...

I love Sheiksh on West St.

There are loads of threads on here though about this

The Harley is quality for proper good grub at a good price. Their burgers are wicked. Your prob looking for something a bit mopre evening restaurant orientated though I imagine. Check the Cricket Inn just outside Sheff, slightly pricey but if he's paying, well worth it!!!

I agree with Wasabisabi. They probably have the best Japanese food in Sheffield. They also have a separate section of the restaurant for Teppan, where a chef comes to your table and cooks most of the meal in front of you. It's expensive, but a good experience!

Probably not the best restaurant for a date (it's always really busy), but Noodle Inn (NOT Noodle Bar) on London Road has really good food. Big portions and good quality ingredients. I've said this on another thread, but the Roast Pork on rice is REALLY good, especially when it's really crispy.

the best food if your not bothered about price has got to be Marco @Milano's (Archer Rd - Millhouses).been 3 times and everytime has been spot on.
