johnbradley 31-07-2006, 09:19 good luck to him, sounds like he's put his back into it and is getting somewhere. nice one:)
but does the world really need another good competent house dj?
am i right in thinking its probably the least challenging genre of music to mix...?

to be honest I couldn't comment as I'm not a dj. however, there's more to John's djing than just mixing tunes - he does all sorts of tricks with the vinyl, decks etc
Also using other tunes on vinyl on a loop over the top, scratching, using 3 turntables at the same time. He's also started making his own music and pretty soon he should be close to creating a whole track (practise making perfect stage at moment)
So overall, JOHN-DIXON is more than just 'another' house Dj.
If you join the group via the link above, either pm me through SF or Dontstayin.com and I'll send you his latest mix cd with some pretty amazing stuff on......!
johnbradley 31-07-2006, 14:49 ^ ok my hands are up...sounds like he is far from the usual - hope he does well:)

hahahahaha,
are you in to house music (he generally plays funky, vocal, uplifting, and touching on dirty and electro house)
If so I'll send ya a cd...?:)
johnbradley 31-07-2006, 15:31 actually, im not really. if he starts mixing quality underground hiphop, or develops a love for late 60s/early 70s psychedelic rock, then be my guest!

No offence intended so don't get upset but any credible DJ does more than just mix 2 tunes. Many also go on to produce their own tracks.
Good luck to him tho' - sounds like he's going in the right direction and with that many people trying it now it's not the easiest thing to be successful in.

he certainly is - REALLY BIG things are happening for him, so I'm trying to get the sheffield people behind him to support him! he's very passionate about sheffield and if he is lucky enough to make it in the serious DJ scene, he'll be singing sheffield's praises from the rooftops! ;)
BRINGITON 01-08-2006, 08:45 And here was me thinking this was going to be a post drumming up some love for all the fine hidden talent this fair city has to offer. But no, it's just you bigging up your brother's funky house flavas again. ;) :hihi:
Good luck to the big man tho (the term 'little' brother is a tad deceptive!)
brummieade 01-08-2006, 09:21 house music nowadays screems gay kandi and boring riffs...
minimal is the way forward, or anything dark n dirty...step forward steve angello and sander van doorn...now they r good djs.
Well said brummieade!!! Minimal is def the way forward! Check out these guys who are also local lads:

As for support we should focus on supporting local nights and events rather than one person.

Keep It Deep!
I suppose another way of supporting local dj's, buying them drinks when you see them in town, and just running up to them and giving them a hug!! Maybe even giving them a massage while they are behind the decks........
just a few idea's
Thanks, Jen13kd. John Dixon sounds a hard act to follow!
I'm myself a well known local talent -I'm sheffield's BEST-KNOWN DRAG QUEEN!!!! (Winner of Razor Stiletto Glamorous Drag Competition Dec. 2005!)
There are some other longer-experienced Drag Queens in Sheffield -in particular I should take my hat (or wig??) off to the ONE AND ONLY PENNY CHANGE, who tours the whole country, and Charlotte, who often tours with Greentop Circus, but I'm currently best known on the local scenethere are various other 'queens' as well at some of the clubs, but many of them seem to only do it occasionally, or to commute up from places like Hull, London, etc...
BTW, How DO I PM John Dixon? I've joined his group through his group link, but can I PM him through Sheffield Forum or what?
In case any of you folks would like to see my video tribute to Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights', click on the following link:

if you're wanting a cd you can pm me through SF.
Or pm me or john through the dont stay in website...
what's your screen name on dont stay in Tyranna?
Good luck!
As for supporting local nights etc as mentioned in the other posts, I totally agree!
I know I'm biased (coz he's my lil bruv) but he really is a fantastic DJ and I hope the good people of sheffield will get behind him to support him, and the other great DJ's from this fair city!
