help needed how do i stand on this one

right dont know whare to start on this 1 i have a 2ltr auto estate i have had a new alternator fitted and with in 80 miles it shredded the belt new vaux belt fitted and same thing happens but this time the shredded belt got wrapped round the bottom cam belt pulley and damaged the engine the garage say its the alternator what was at fault is there a rite and wrong way to fit a belt or could it be a dodgey alternator question is who is at fault the garage or the alternator suppler and who stands the cost of repair to make matters wors the garage owner is away on his hols and not back till sat the garage has offered me the use of 1 of there vans hope you can shed some light on this matter thanks in advance steve

Go to the CAB to see your rights under consumer law. You will have to prove who's at fault.
Although you have consumer rights it is often difficult to exercise them to your satisfaction.

Whether it be the alternator, or the garage (or a combination of the two) the fact is that the car was fine before they worked on it

IMO, by lending you a van they are accepting liability since they have no obligation to do so.

You could contact your insurer, or look at your household policy, as most of these also provide a free legal helpline for ANY legal problem you may have ;)

got this off trading standards today
If your car suffered damage as a direct result of the work done by the
garage you may have a claim under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982.
This Act says that work done must be carried out with 'reasonable care and
skill', and if not then the trader is liable for any costs involved in
putting things right
so they are doing it free of charge :thumbsup:
