Hi - I'm a guy in my late thirties, new to the area and Sheffield/Rotherham and not really a clubber type of person! I was wondering if anyone can suggest the the best places to 'bump' into single women around here! Most big places have good pubs/bars for over 30's or specific singles bars etc - I'd be grateful for some pointers!! Thanks!

Theres a speed dating night at Takapoonas on tue nite, I know about this cos my ex told my she was goin! Its £10 for the nite with some food and a few free drinks thrown in!
I think the way it works is at the begining you get 2 or 3 minutes with each person then move on. After youve met everybody you go and chat to the people that you took a shine too and then theres a mass orgey (joke)! :D
Whats the forums thoughts on this? Is speed dating a good way to meet people/partners?

Absolutely no idea, but I guess you'll never know unless you try. It certainly sounds like a nice change of scenery :)
My brother tried it a few times and enjoyed himself, but said that you really need to go with 1 or 2 friends as you're not meeting people all the time. If you're on your own you risk propping up the bar looking a Billy No Mates at some point in the evening. He also advised against getting too drunk :)
I've been thinking out trying it out, I must admit. I just gotta work on my 3 minute 'patter' ;)

There is also a singles social night at Takapuna every second Thursday of the month - next one 8th July. £6.00 entry with a free drink.
Good fun and no-one gets left on their own propping the bar up!
