What does everyone think about the EU banning the National Anthems of its members in 2005 and installing the Belgian one as the new anthem?

I suppose that I have a bit, Tony.

The Belgian anthem will sound OK, though before big matches, won't it?

Anybody ever heard the Belgian national anthem?

What are the words about?

Chocolate and salmonella? Conquest and DEFEAT?

Sam Mig, it is your mission, should you accept it, to write a National Anthem for them.

I don't mind them banning national anthems, in fact, who cares about our 'gracious Queen' anyway?

But I think they should write a completely new one.

I think ours is depressing anyway, why can't we have a more upbeat one.
Even 'I vow to thee my country' would be better

I like 'Oh flower of Scotland' for the Scots

what about 'A kind of Magic'

or the pistols version of god save the queen

or 'we are the champions'

or 'master of puppets '

Yeah our anthem is a terrible dirge. I'd go for "Cigarettes and Alcohol", or as we supposed to always talk about the weather how about "Singin' in the Rain"?

I'd Nominate the folk song 'Sweet England', only it's supposed to be a UK one.....lovely song though.....

But would it have to be in Flemish, French, Esperanto or what?

I did think of this but it's in English:

Antwerp, Antwerp, Bruges, Ostend
Always us will be your friend
Brussels, Brussels, Belgian chocs
Change your shoes and wash your socks.

To the tune of 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'.

I particularly like the juxtapostion of Brussels and Brussels. Nice, don't you think?

Sorry, I don't speak it. I need someone to help me from the Esperanto Society.
