Don't do this! The ferret will see your dog as the reason it gets hit and it will begin to bite out of aggression rather than play.

It's something that ferret kittens will do just like puppies do but they do need training out of it so that they don't carry it on in adulthood. However, it's their way of playing and I know a lot of people have ferrets that aren't nasty and love people and other animals but they do like to play with dogs and cats and tend to do this by nipping their behinds and their feet.

Do a google search on ferrets, there will be plenty of info to be found but also know that if the ferret bites hard enough to hurt your dog, your dog won't allow it and will probably sort the situation out itself by telling the ferret off. Unless you actually fear for the ferret's life, don't stop your dog from telling the ferret off it needs to in order to maintain a consistent hierarchy (sp?) and to teach the ferret that certain things are not allowed.

I totally agree with this - its like when you get any new animal which will be in constant contact with the animals which were in your house before hand. With dogs, if a puppy bites an older dog, its likely the older dog will bite it right back, just to say to it 'don't do that'. I used to be afraid to let my old dog play with my mums new puppy, but figured out in the end that they'd sort themselves out.
