View Full Version : Try Zeugma on London Road
2437_SNT 27-07-2006, 18:47 This place was recommended to us by a friend and we've been a few times now.
It's a Turkish restaurant and they do take away too
Everything about the place is faultless...excellent courteous friendly staff, GORGEOUS food, air-con.
You can see the food being cooked on their massive charcoal barbecue-type cooker.
Complimentary olives and bread arrive as soon as you sit down
The houmous and breads are divine...the main courses are fab!!! and they have a great selection of meats and veggie
The price isn't bad either...we paid £50 for 5 of us with starters main course and drinks..and they are licensed
Definitely highly recommended if you like this sort of food...a true taste of summer...be prepared to book as it gets busy
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been to Marmaris which appears to be owned by the same people as Zeugma. I'd recommend it.. the food is lovely and its cheap too :D

Really!!! Zeugma was recommended as better than Marmaris...marmaris never seems to have many people in and Zeugma seems full of people!!
I've been to Marmaris;great holiday it was too:D
Oooh I'll have to try Zeugma then!
Zeugma is truly one of the best restaurants in sheffield. Food is soooooo fantastic that if they charged double the prices i think it would still be good value for money!! Staff are friendly and portions are HUGE!
However do not confuse it with Marmaris, as we did! The last time we went to Zeugma the owner came to chat with us and we mentioned that we had also been to Marmaris, assuming that he owned that too. This is not the case! However i think he mentioned that he was in the process of buying the italian down the road - think it used to be Dino's or something. Haven't been down London Road in a while so don't know if any work has been done, but a bigger Zeugma is surely good news!!
Must admit that we were disappointed by Marmaris when we went - food was cold - so glad Zeugma isn't associated with it.
only been to zeugma.......not maramis.......and i have to say i really love the place.........defo one of my fave restaurants......
x
have you got the number as i'm thinking of booking a table for my birthday...has anyone else been/can anyone reccomend other places with a nice atmosphere?? I'll be going with my boyfriend, so any suggestions as to nice places would be good!
Thanks
C
Tartempion 01-08-2006, 22:29 Does anyone know how big this place is? I'm thinking of going with about 8 other people but I have no idea of the size of the restaurant. ...a phone number would be useful too if anyone has it. Thanks. :)
Zeugma is quite small,I would really recommend booking for a large party. The phone number is 2582223
Tartempion 02-08-2006, 13:36 Thanks! :D
Kthebean 16-10-2008, 09:24 We are going to Zeugmas tonight for the first time.
Do you think we need to book and can you suggest anything off the menu to try?
Thanks.

I love Zeugma. They have a larger sister restaurant a few doors down too. Every single thing on their menu I have tried has been delicious. They do a mixed kebab meal if you cannot decide I think.
Oh, try the turnip juice!
poppoppoppet 16-10-2008, 14:09 I used to really like Zeugma, but the last time we went the service was comically bad and the food was tasteless.
We really felt unwelcome, they obviously didn't want to serve us, although it was a quiet evening and there were only 2 of us. we haven't been back since.

You might need to book for the small restaurant (the original one) if there are a few of you, but it has a sister restaurant a few doors down (same or similar menu) which is a bit larger. it's bring your own wine too :).
Portions are quite large so go easy on the bread/olives!

Seconded. I went about a year ago with 2 friends after having it highly recommended. It was horrendous, from rude staff to greasy tasteless food and the wine arrived with a screwed up ball of tissue in the neck of the bottle! Will never go again and I rarely say that about anywhere!
johnbradley 16-10-2008, 20:20 I went with my bird a while ago and i agree with the comments above - it was pretty rubbish.
Which is a shame cos we did have a couple of decent meals there, but this one crap time has put us right off. I'd probably have a more enjoyable time chewing an old pair of socks. Actually, i have. And they deserved it anyway.
Anyone been recently? Thinking of going on Thursday for a birthday meal....
was thinking of going with my bf don't like the idea anymore!
Carborundum 19-03-2009, 23:37 This place was great when I went about a year ago - I do hope it is still so :-)
Was great when we went on 8th March, tasty, good portion size and a friendly atmosphere.
mcfluffy 20-03-2009, 10:04 Hello all, this is my first post on the forum but have been reading posts about places to go for a while now and have found it really helpful so thank you!!! :)

Zeugma is still Zeugma and has opened a Zeugma 2 a few doors down. I've not been to Zeugma 2 but I've been to the original a few times and it has always been great.
Went last night , it was ok but our main courses were a bit bland .
6/10 frrom me
Highlight of the evening was this English Guy came in and sat near us and starts to speak to the waiter in Turkish which was quite impresive .
After he did it the second time the waiter turned round and said
Sorry i dont speak Turkish :hihi:
Carborundum 16-08-2009, 12:13 Yes Zegeuma is fabulous ...
SnifferDog 18-08-2009, 01:54 Zeugma & Zeugma Iki which is a bit further down, are still open, and still as good as ever ..... however just notice on some old posts that they thought that Zeugma & Marmaris (as was then) were owned by the same people, but they weren't. They were owned by different people but Zeugma has always been the best
The Idler 18-08-2009, 07:52 Zeugma is ace and I used to go there all the time when I lived over that side of town. Went to Zeugma Iki once though (Zeugma was full) and it wasn't as good - Different menu and the veggie option was not up to much. Funny, because I thought they'd basically have the same food.
But proper Zeugma may well be my favorite restaurant in the whole of Sheffield. It's worth bearing in mind that at the weekends (and sometimes in the week) they have two sittings, a 7pm and a 9pm, and you always need to book ahead.
rubiomk2 09-01-2010, 18:59 Went to Zeugma today with a friend - food was delicious. Have been a few times over the last couple of months and food has been great each time although I do miss the "special pink rice" if I go during the week as i was told by the waiter today that they only serve it at weekends. The waiting staff can be a little slow at times but generally are v good. And the baklava is worth the trip in the cold on its own!
Smack Jack 09-01-2010, 19:09 I went and loved it on the whole. I must admit I went in the smaller one and stormed out in a hissy fit as the slimy guy running it sat me next to the counter and I was having to move my chair for people (and yet it was basically empty). I asked to move, he asked what the problem was and I told him, he told me my table was fine and so I said 'well I'm off then'. He did try and get me to stay but I can be a little hot headed so off I went. I then went to the big one and ate, and it redeemed itself. I had a mixed kebab which was excellent. The only thing was for me I like the raita/yoghurt thing the turks make and they dont offer that but on the whole the food and service (in the big one) were very good
I went for the first time on New Years Eve. I had the mixed kebab which was excellent.
I really like it. I would go as far as to say I go atleast once a month. Would recomend the Mixed Kebab!
Always a good place to go - we go often and have never had anything less than good quality food there.
