Why is it that with all this modern technology, internet banking, 24 hour lifestyle western world etc... it takes 7-10 working days to recieve replacement bank cards?

You can get a credit agreement on the internet in 30 seconds but try and get hold of a new card with the bank you've been loyal to all your adult life and you have to wait ages. I didn't know how inconvienced I would be by this trauma.

I've even got some fandabbadozy card protection insurance bt that doesn't help.

Is their any bank that replaces cards in 24/48 hrs? I'm sure I've seen an advert... or am I thinking about travellers cheques?

I don't know about your bank in particular but my bank puts priority on lost/stolen cards. If you report it as lost/stolen then your card is stopped as soon as reported.

As it has been stopped and you have, in theory, no access to your money your new card generally comes in a couple of days.

If you are just getting a new account then the 7 days apply. Likewise if your card is damaged the 7 days apply. In the case of damaged cards your current card is still active until your new one arrives.

The reason for the 7 days is that the prority is on stolen cards to be issues 1st.

Orders for cards are sent to a factory type set up where they are fabricated.

Natwest were so quick last year that they sent me a new card about a week before my old one was stolen :confused:

Because the card has to be specially made for you, then it has to be posted to you. The bank can hardly send a new card by e-mail, can they?

It's probably wise to have a credit card which you keep at home, seperate from your main card, so that you've got somthing to use as a backup if your main card is lost.

I know at least one occasion where a credit card company have couriered a new card to a customer who had her purse stolen while on holiday.

they probably say 7 days to cover themselves, i wouldn't be surprised if it turned up sooner.

Oooh I've annoyed someone who works in a bank!

What on earth are you on about 'send it by email' what would i do - print a bank card out onto cardboard?!

I do have separate stashes of cards but even thought I only lost 2 cards they all got cancelled because my contact in England panicked and told my card insurance people to cancel them all - hence the trauma.

Which c.card companies courrier new cards please? (my original question) See, some companies have a fast plastic card 'specially made for you' making machine!

Funnily enough one bank has sent me 2 cards instead of 1 and neither of them work!

9 days (well 6 working days) and counting for the others...

Thats the point - there's no other way to send it than via the post. It was you who asked:

My point being that, despite modern technology, you're still relying on the post office delivering somthing.

Suggest you try asking More Than [ http://www.morethan.com ] if they do this. I have seen quite a few pages on the net that says they do, but on their site they only seem to mention the following :

"emergency cash advances - from £50 to £500, on production of photo identification, anywhere in the world "

Sounds good but guess you have to make sure you keep some photo ID separate from your wallet so that too doesnt go AWOL and you cant get owt :P

I work for a bank, you didn't anger me.

Natwest have also sent me a random extra card for no discernible reason. Can't complain I suppose...
