I have just returned yet again from Nationwide Repairs who seem completely incapable of carrying out a successful repair at the first attempt! Todays visit was the fourth, I only needed two things fixing after my car got broken into in April! But one of those has been done so badly I will yet again have to take it back to be repaired! fifth time lucky!
Is all this just my bad luck or has anyone else had similar problems???
I dealt with them a couple of years ago at their Leeds / Hunslett branch.
I blew up the cylinder head gasket of my car (believe it or not, parked at traffic lights - it's a long and painful story) and they took a while to get it sorted then.
I'm not sure they did a brilliant job - I've had recent problems with oil pressure and I reckon they didn't fit the gasket properly.
However, I've been told that gaskets on Rover 220s can be pains in teh arse to fit so who knows....
I guess the performance of an individual branch depends upon the branch. I dealt with one of their Sheffield offices for a different problem and they sorted me out fine.

I had my car repaired there after it had been broken into - they had to replace the door skin as it had been punctured by a screwdriver near the lock.
I found their service poor to say the least.
No-one seemed to know what was happening with my car, or when it would be ready. It took almost 3 weeks in the end, for a what I thought was a fairly straightforward repair.
When I was finally told that I could pick it up I was dropped off there only to find that it wasn't ready at all........ so there I was in the middle of Attercliffe with no transport. I made my displeasure clear (!) and one of them drove me home.
As the insurance company were paying I had no choice in where to take the car, but I'd never voluntarily take it there again!

You should know your rights.
You do not have to take it to their 'approved repair centre', thats all bull.
My insurance company tried to pull that on me aswell when i wanted my windscreen replaced. They said use AG, who I have had a bad experience with, so i insisted it go to BMW - and so it did.
Insist on a quality job, they get it cheaper from their 'approved' repairer which is why they are so pushy for you to take it there.
Used Nationwide in Sheffield on a few ocassions following rear end shunts (its a hazard of the job!!). Never had any problems at all with them
Now Just Car Clinics - thats a different matter...............
I used Nationwide after somebody hit the front wing of my car. Had no problems with the service or them fixing it but I had to drive round in a copper coloured daewoo matiz for 2 weeks much to the ammusement of my friends.

If you blew the head gasket, there is a good chance that the cylinder head needed 'skimming' i.e machining of a thou' or too.
That may have caused your problems.
Not an axpert in mechanics, just have blown FOUR head gaskets.
first one in the slip road (OUTSIDE LANE) coming off M1 Junc. 36 in rush hour. At a standstill. Terryfying
Sorry, I ramble

At the time I had no experience of Nationwide, and didn't have any personal experience of another body repairer, so had no reason to kick up a fuss about being sent there.
Touch wood I won't need a repairer again, but if I do - my car won't be going there!

my thoughts exactly, this is the first time my car has needed repair, and the last time it'll go to Nationwide!
