I was in a pub in Worksop a couple of years ago and I held open a door for someone...the guy said 'thanks shag'....Was i hearin things.A couple of people I've talked to since have told me it means mate ie cheers mate--cheers shag (or shagbag).....I've not heard it said since........

I've heard blokes in sheffield say stuff like 'oright shagger, 'ows it going' a couple of times:D

Yeh, it's definitely a friendly greeting along the lines of "cheers, mate". I know a few raw Wigan lads that use it often.
I can see the potential in this.
Waitress, "Are you ready to order sir?."
Male customer, "No love. I'm just waiting for a shag.":)
